Saints Row IV Announced

jones_supa writes "The cartoon heroes are back, with even stronger superpowers. Deep Silver Volition has announced Saints Row IV for an August launch. From the press release: 'In the next open-world installment of Saints Row, Deep Silver Volition continues the story of the Third Street Saints by elevating their status to the highest level – the leaders of the free world. In Saints Row IV, the head honcho of the Saints has been elected to the Presidency of the United States. Saints Row IV lets players delve into an arsenal of alien weaponry and technology that will turn each Saint into an ultimate entity of destruction. The player utilizes out-of-this-world superpowers to fight all the way to the top. With intensified action and enhanced customization, the protagonists can use their newfound superpowers and leap over buildings, outrun the fastest sports cars, or send enemies flying with telekinesis in the most insane installment of Saints Row yet.'"

2 and Third were great. Insurance Fraud is probably the best minigame activity in the series. And nothing beats the gang war against a bunch of furries in Third.

There were times I had to pause the game until my eyes cleared I was laughing so hard.

I picked up Saints Row 3 on a whim when it was something like $10 for the game and all its DLC on Steam. Before that I'd known little of the series and the advertising/reviews hadn't really been compelling enough for me to try it out.

As if ripped from the brain of an acid-tripping Mark Millar, SR3's balls to the wall ridiculousness somehow works, and co-op support takes it to a whole other level. I'm hooked. Give me more.

While I generally agree that SR3 felt more limited than SR2, the problem with SR2 is that the PC port is buggy as hell and a huge performance hog, which crashes regularly on many machines. It doesn't even run properly if your CPU's clock speed isn't the same as the console it was developed for.

GTA4 is basically SR3 with all the fun removed.

So they aren't ripping off GTA anymore, and moving on to ripping off Prototype and Infamous instead?

If by ripping off GTA you mean 'Vastly improving upon' then yes. If you mean 'Copying the flaming dirt of a dating your male cousin simulator' that GTA4 was, then no.

Sweet, I hope I can play it over OnLive. I played sr3 there, and it was a blast. I think that rumors of OnLive's demise are premature!
