Cold Spring Linked To Dramatic Sea Ice Loss
hrvatska writes "An article at Weather Underground reports that researchers have linked large snowstorms and cold spring weather across Britain and large parts of Europe and North America to the dramatic loss of Arctic sea ice. It is thought that the Arctic ice loss adds heat to the ocean and atmosphere, which shifts the position of the jet stream, allowing cold air from the Arctic to plunge much further south. Researchers expect that a warming Arctic ocean will drive more extreme weather in North America and Europe (abstract)."

Man that Gulf stream is freaking magical. First it warms Europe by migrating warm air north and east across the Atlantic, and one has to presume also into the Arctic where it melts ice.
Then global warming shuts the stream down, and Europe gets cold.
So I assume that extra heat is sticking around the Gulf, right - making it hotter in the US?

Oh, well, it's not colder because of all the cold air coming from the Arctic?
But I thought the Gulf stream was shutdown and therefore not conveying warm air.
Man that is one magic Gulf stream. It works and doesn't work at the same time it makes some things hot and others cold - depending on whatever keeps the grant money coming, right?

Climate Science really isn't a science. In real science, a model is developed and then it is confirmed against reality through many experiments run in many independent labs. With Climate Science, there is exactly one experiment which will take hundreds of years to complete. With Climate Science, computer models are substituted for experiments and the computer models miraculously confirm the theoretical models which they encode. Meanwhile, reality continues merrily along without regard for the circular computer-model "experiments", and in the short term anyway, reality is defying the computer models. Also in real sciences, the models become progressively more accurate over time and converge on a good answer. With Climate Science, the models have become more and more divergent from reality over time. Perhaps it should be reclassified as a Political Science.
