Japanese Police Urge ISPs To Block Tor
hypnosec writes "Authorities in Japan are presumably worried about their inability to tackle cybercrime and, in a bid to stem one of the sources of anonymous traffic, the National Police Agency (NPA) is asking ISPs to block Tor. The recommendation comes from the special panel formed by the NPA after a hacker going by the name Demon Killer was found to regularly use Tor to anonymize his online activities, like posting of death threats on public message boards."

21++ ADVANTAGES OF CUSTOM HOSTS FILES (how/what/when/where/why):
Over AdBlock & DNS Servers ALONE 4 Security, Speed, Reliability, & Anonymity (to an extent vs. DNSBL's + DNS request logs).
1.) HOSTS files are useable for all these purposes because they are present on all Operating Systems that have a BSD based IP stack (even ANDROID) and do adblocking for ANY webbrowser, email program, etc. (any webbound program). A truly "multi-platform" UNIVERSAL solution for added speed, security, reliability, & even anonymity to an extent (vs. DNS request logs + DNSBL's you feel are unjust hosts get you past/around).
2.) Adblock blocks ads? Well, not anymore & certainly not as well by default, apparently, lol - see below:

Disclaimer: Opera now also has an AdBlock addon (now that Opera has addons above widgets), but I am not certain the same people make it as they do for FF or Chrome etc..

Indeed. After their WWII defeat, Japan was forced to adopt democracy, and put on the facade of being a free society. But underneath, it has not really changed that much. There is no independent judiciary, no right to a jury trial, forced confessions are routine and almost always accepted by the courts. The police have the authority to perform "on the spot" justice, such as a nightstick beating. If the police think you are guilty, then you are guilty: less than 1% of defendants are acquitted at trial. Wikipedia has a good overview of the Japanese Criminal Justice System.
On the other hand, they have an extremely low rate of violent crime, and the Japanese people seem to be satisfied with that.
