Every Public School Student In LA Will Get an iPad In 2014
Jeremiah Cornelius writes "After signing a $30 million iPad deal with Apple in June, the Los Angeles School Board of Education has revealed the full extent of the program that will provide tablets to all students in the district. CiteWorld reports that the first phase of the program will see pupils receive 31,000 iPads this school year, rising to 640,000 Apple tablets by the end of 2014. Apple previously announced that the initiative would include 47 campuses and commence in the fall." Certain companies (not just Apple) stand to benefit from this kind of outlay.
So, when you buy a computer, you don't buy software? Support? Etc? Oh, I forgot, fandroids write their own software. How could i have forgotten that. Every kid should be writing their own software stack.
Can you pull your head out of your ass for a moment, and look at it clearly? Just like the pilots were not issued iPads as a computing device but as a way to manage and replace 40 lbs of FAA required manuals, this is the same. The kids are given a device that has their books (which are effing expensive) and tests on them, and a way to centrally managed them.
What the hell are they going to do with a 2 year old samsung chromebook (as suggested by others in the original thread)? Nothing. People don't buy a device just to have it do nothing. They buy it for the ability to run software they need. Right now, Androids still don't have the software they need. It's as simple as that.
Now watch me get modded down by all the fandroids.
