Syria: a Defining Moment For Chemical Weapons?
Lasrick writes "Oliver Meier describes the long-term significance (even beyond the incredible human suffering) of Syria's alleged use of chemical weapons on August 21, and outlines six major steps for response. Quoting: 'The attack in August is a historic event with wider implications. Its impact on the role of chemical weapons in international security in general will depend primarily on the responses. Looking beyond the current crisis, failure to respond to the attacks could undermine the taboo against chemical weapons. ... First, a unified response by the international community is essential. The strength of international norms depends primarily on great-power support. So far, such a unified response is sorely lacking. Judgments about how to react to the use of chemical weapons appear to be tainted by preferences about the shape of a post-war Syria. This has already damaged the international chemical weapons legal regime.'"
weapons that deliver a chemical reaction causing eye, skin and lung damage are bad.
weapons that deliver a chemical reaction causing bits of metal flying through your eye, skin and lung are good.
Is this the reason the Obamanation regime is trying to bury the Benghazi fiasco?
The mind conceives, the body achieves, the spirit manifests.
There were many more embassy attacks and many more dead under Bush than Obama, but you Republicans didn't care then. Probably still don't beyond politics. Which is likely considering you guys decided that there shouldn't be increased funds for embassy security.
Not that the US follows the Geneva Convention either. Depleted Uranium and white phosphorous are somehow excusable violations.
You're missing the point; the US uses these weapons for good, Syria uses it on their own people.
Obama having endured two of the poll-number political horrific months of his shattered Presidency is seeking revenge to appease his tattered manhood.
Kerry, in his own words he proclaims himself the "Next President of the United States", needs to assert his manhood to fulfill his sexual ego aspirations.
The "alleged" use of chemical weapons in the Syrian conflict, by who?!, does present itself as an avenue for both men to "get some" and at least in their altered-state sex ego driven sociopathic personality type minds reclaim the public's love and worshipfulness.
When the "limited" Naval barrage and aircraft sortie strikes against population centers in Syria are over, for Turkey's benefit (they are backing the rebel forces, Ah Ha the source of the "alleged" chemical weapons and personnel how carried out the attack) with 60 to 100 thousand dead:
1. Mr. Obama and Mr. Kerry will be accused and later found guilty of using weapons of mass destruction breaking all international (as well as domestic) norms and laws.
2. The Court of The Hague will issue capture and rendition notes against Mr. Obama and Mr. Kerry for appearance at The Court to face charges of Crimes Against Humanity and Other Acts of Evil.
3. The Nobel Committee Organization in Stockholm will after very short discussion will formally revoke the Nobel Peace Prize they issued to Mr. Obama in 2009.
4. The United States Congress will be galvanized into conducting Impeachment Proceedings to formally remove Mr. Obama from the Office of President; Mr. Kerry will resign and retire to Utah where he will remain for security reasons.
I'm so sick of this crap about how the US invaded Iraq to secure oil.
So where is all the oil that the US secured??
A few days ago someone on here had a great idea for the US - they should pull out of international affairs completely. Bring all of our military assets home - army, navy - everything. Leave the world on its own.
Let North Korea take South Korea.
Let China take Taiwan, and threaten all of Asia including Australia.
Let Russia re-take Eastern Europe.
Let everyone use chemical weapons.
Let everyone - including top supporters of international terrorism like Iran - develop and maybe use nukes.
Fuck the rest of the world - ingrates with short term memories.
You fucking Europeans deserve to be under Russia's boot. You have conveniently forgotten who kept that from happening during the Cold War, and the means that were used to defend you.
You fucking German hipocrites who act like you don't have an espionage program of your own, and conveniently forget that you dictate everything that goes on in Europe while accusing the US of dictating the world.
Not to mention you assholes in Europe who bitch and moan about Israel and the US's support of it, while forgetting you all had a hand in the reason why Israel exists in the first place, especially you Germans.
You're all hipocrites. Ingrates. Assholes who have forgotten everything the US has ever done for you.
How many Canadian, British, Australian and New Zeland Slashdotters have bemoaned the NSA while your countries are part of it?
Ill be completely honest with you. I am not in the least happy with my country. I am absolutely opposed to the NSAs domestic bullshit. I'm scared of the destruction of the constitution - and before someone says I'm an idiot for thinking it means something - it does, or did at least. And I can't stand our current president; or his predessor. I can't list all the issues I have with the course this country has taken.
But I also am sick of the US hatred. Of the morons on here who think the NSA is behind slow DSL connections.
Get a life. The world isn't a nice place. But it would be a lot worse without the US - flawed or not.
