Journalists Banned From Using Smartphones At 2014 Sochi Olympics?

First time accepted submitter SlongNY writes in with a story that journalists may be banned from taking photos or videos with smartphones at the 2014 Olympics. "'Journalists using mobile phones to film athletes or spectators will be considered a serious violation and will result in cancellation of accreditation,' said Vasily Konov, head of the state-run R-Sport news agency, which controls accreditation at the games. According to Buzzfeed, Mr. Konov later denied that he had said the ban was in place. Radio Free Europe, however, also reported him as saying the same thing."

Bash Russia, Bash North Korea, Bash Iran- and people wonder why GCHQ turned to the owners of Slashdot to help insert trojan software onto the machines of target individuals.

Here's a clue for you sheeple. Unauthorised coverage of the Olympics has been BANNED, and ruthlessly eliminated using every semi-legal method possible since the AMERICANS first turned their Olympics into a giant corporate and mainstream media cashcow. It is the USA that laid down modern abusive use of copyright to limit freedoms of just about all of us, and it is the USA that has demanded that every other nation follow suite.

The ONLY mistake Russia makes is in not having the sophisticated PR machines that the West uses to sugar coat the language used when restrictions on our freedoms are announced. In the West, dirty pirates of the Olympic games must be prevented at all costs, because the pirates use their ill gotten gains to support terrorism and drug peddling, and every penny lost to piracy is another down-on-its-luck child who cannot be helped using profits from the Olympics to be helped to be a future 'gold' winner.

In the East, warnings that 'piracy' of the Olympic events will not be permitted is proof that Putin eats babies, and plans to enslave Humanity. Yes, the owners of Slashdot think you are THAT stupid.

This sounds like a court type of thing, where cell phones are allowed but taking photos/video is not.

Yes, even the summary says this.

Slashdot headline: "OMFG TEHY CHINEZE BANNIN ALL FONEZ FRM OLIMPICKS"
Slashdot summary: "Journalists using mobile phones to film "
Article: "Any officially accredited PRESS/Event members will have to use professional equipment for recording, not your shitty little pocket phones or Goofy Glasses."
