Venezuela: Cheap Television Sets For All!
solareagle writes "Venezuelan President Maduro has declared war on 'bourgeois parasites' by taking over Daka, an electronics retailer similar to Best Buy. USA Today reports, 'National guardsmen, some of whom had assault rifles, were positioned around outlets of [Daka] ... Maduro has ordered to lower prices or face prosecution. Thousands of people lined up at the Daka stores hoping for a bargain after the government forced the companies to charge "fair" prices. "I want a Sony plasma television for the house," said Amanda Lisboa, 34, a business administrator who waited seven hours outside a Caracas store ... "It's going to be so cheap!" "This is for the good of the nation," Maduro said, referring to the military's occupation of Daka. "Leave nothing on the shelves, nothing in the warehouses Let nothing remain in stock!" Maduro said his seizures are the 'tip of the iceberg' and that other stores would be next if they did not comply with his orders.'"
OH TOTALLY! When I think of the Venezuelan dictatorship, the very very first thing that springs to mind is how the tea party worships Hugo Chavez like a bunch of mindless drones!!
Thank God-Emperor Obama that Rachel Maddow and Sean Penn have exposed those evil tea partiers and their evil affiliation with the pro-free market radical libertarian venezuelan evil dictators!
AntiFA: An abbreviation for Anti First Amendment.
Pay close attention to what's happening in Venezuela, and every other country that has attempted to enforce price or income controls. Prosperity can't legislated or mandated.
Great journalism. Report on what one person outside the shop hopes, instead of what actually happened in the shop.
Daka has five shops in the whole of Venezuela.
It's very hard to know what's happening in Venezuela when you don't live there. Most of the media is owned by foreign (US) companies, so it's hard to know what sources to trust. Coverage in foreign media is often just ridiculous.

And it is doing great considering how whites have abandoned it. They didn't want to pay their fair share, and the city government there is doing an amazing job of keeping things running. A Republican ruler would have cut spending and increased the rate of decline. All of the problems in that city are rooted in white people that do not want to pay their fair share.
Reading crap like Atlas Shrugged is like repeatedly having unprotected sex with somebody with AIDS and a dozen other STDs.
I nurture an ardent belief in classical, liberal free market economics. Like Newton's laws of motion, they clearly describe so much about the real world that they can't be denied, even if they're incomplete and fall far short of describing complex phenomena.
But even I'm afraid of infecting my mind with Ayn Rand's narcissism. I know what her _philosophy_ is because I've read scholarly publications on it, the same way I "know" the Earth is round. But her _books_ are propaganda pieces. And no matter how smart you think you are you can't help but be infected by certain kinds of ideas and perspectives. You'll always wonder if you used a phrase or term (i.e. applied an idea) in a debate because of something you once read years prior.
I choose my books carefully. Free will and choice are so very illusory. The ideas you choose to consume will inevitably consume you. They become part of your mental vocabulary, circumscribe the way you express yourself to others and to your own self, and therefore define yourself.
Also, once I start a book I always finish (personal habit), so it's not like I can read up to page 20 and decide to abort.
If he was such a moron, do you think the US 1% elite would have poisoned him? Or even want to sabotage their country or political system?
Unfortunately, the people who DO know how money works attempted to illegally ally with the CIA and overthrow Chavez. So they have no RIGHT to do anything but rot in jail for treason... Which Chavez was pretty cool about not outright killing them off.
Venezuela was a Tea Party wet dream. It was a Banana Republic for decades and a few families got crazy rich. Chavez popped their little bubble while we're still taking it up the ass in the USA to catch up so our workers can be treated like theirs. Now external Bankers are trying to cause instability instead of helping out... Why settle for 50% profits in the name of fairness when they can pick a fight and go back to 90% profits.
