Google Tries To Defuse Glass "Myths"
As reported by Beta News, Google has tried to answer some of the criticism that its Glass head-mounted system has inspired with a blog post outlining and explaining what it calls 10 "myths" about the system. Google's explanation probably won't change many minds, but in just a few years the need to defend head-worn input/output devices might seem quaint and backwards.
Also, it is highly unlikely that significant numbers of people are going to go fit covert recording devices to their clothes and then upload the results to a massive database for mining by a megacorp. The technology exists, but most people don't use it, because it's obviously creepy.
Bullshit. People wear helmet cams every day which can record hours of video in HD. Google Glass can only grab a couple minutes of video, tops. And all those people with helmet cams are going home and uploading that shit to YouTube.
A lot of the objection to Google Glass is that it erodes standards of socially acceptable behaviour
No, that's bullshit too. The objections to Glass are because of the brand name "Google". Slap an Apple logo on a pair and people will be lined up around the block to buy them.
Yes, people can often get touchy about being recorded, when it's obvious that someone is recording them. Guess what? Tough fucking luck, if you're in public then you do not have any right to avoid being photographed or recorded. As a professional photographer I deal with this all the time, and MOST people don't give a shit about someone pointing a camera at them. Some do, and if they want to get uppity about it then guess what- they can call the cops if they don't like it and be told to go piss up a rope.
The right to record what happens in a public environment is fundamental to keeping a society free. It's called PUBLIC for a reason, and if we allow the government to start making laws restricting that then the first law will be to make it illegal to record the Cops. If you don't like being recorded then stay out of view of the public, or wear a disguise. Or move to some place like China or some shit-hole Muslim country where it's illegal to record people without permission from the government Masters.
