OpenSUSE To Offer Rolling Release KDE Experience
sfcrazy (1542989) writes "openSUSE and KDE teams are working on creating four KDE SC repositories for openSUSE which will enable users to get the the kind of experience they want. Users can stick to the default repos that come with openSUSE if they want to use what openSUSE offers. Those users who want to stay updated with the latest KDE SC releases can use the "KDE:Current" repository which will always remain updated. 3rd repo "KDE:Distro:Factory" will offer KDE packages which are being tested and prepared before they are pushed to the 'Current' repo. The fourth repo "KDE:Unstable:SC" will offer early builds as they are being devloped."
so there.
Sooo, KDE goes Debian. No shame in there, it happens to the best so certainly KDE can be excused.
and even mercifully post on starving threads to get the comment number up.

I used to use openSuse a long time ago, before switching to Ubuntu.
What's the distro like? I'm thinking of a move back, given the bullshit surrounding Ubuntu lately.
So i guess I will be able to install the latest gimp, blender, inkscape, vlc, etc... no more errors, no more compiling, because the distro is up to date and compatible with the new software. With windows 7/8.1 you can install old(not all dos programs) or new versions of a software on it without worrying it's gonna break or not install at all. Linux developer communities forgot the most important thing about an OS is the type of software(photoshop, office, quickbooks, gimp, libreoffice, etc.... that you can run on it. It's so useless for developers to waste time and energy coming up with another debian or slackware based distro and we have enough DE's, just finish developing wayland and convince amd and nvidia to target their drivers for this new display server and just move on.
I still prefer kde over windows 7 shitty, non-customizable single taskbar.
Ah KDE, oh I so would love to love it. Instead it looks terrible, is glitchy, and suffers so many usability issues I give up after a day. I stuck with it at 4.0, through the dark days, all the way to 4.3. I tried to give it another go not long ago, as I look to move from Unity, but double-clicking on a movie file on a network drive insists on copying the 1Gb file to /tmp before playing it. No thank you.
Go to kde.org to look at the latest screenshots. Can't find it? You didn't think to look at menu item "Workspaces" and click on "Plasma desktop"?
I'll take another look after they've refactored the codebase for the umpteen millionth time. The moment I try installing I am sure they will tell me it's already deprecated as they are releasing Frameworks 6 Plasma Ultra 3.14 which won't be backwardly compatible but is waaay cooler underneath.
Make the thing usable godammit!!!

Great news! OpenSuSE is a terrific distro and having the latest KDE packages will make it nearly perfect. I'm going to be changing my repositories as soon as these new ones are available.
The way Debian works, testing is the worst one to use. You will have some ancient packages, some we ones and it's not really stable either.
Unstable is contrary to its name in fact both more up-to-date and more stable than testing.
I loved KDE 3.5, and would spend weeks customizing everything to look exactly like I wanted.
It worked perfectly, I had all the right applications and buttons at the right place.
Then you should be quite happy with the Trinity desktop, which is the KDE-approved and-assisted maintenance/improvement fork of KDE 3.5.10. I am. They're up to 3.5.13.2 now, with release 3.5.14 in the works.
I thought I read recently that openSUSE was incorporated with spyware.
