Russian Meteor: Chelyabinsk Asteroid Had Violent Past
astroengine (1577233) writes "The asteroid that hit Earth last year and exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia, had a prior crash record. Fragments of the asteroid recovered after the powerful Feb. 15, 2013, airburst show it contained an unusual form of the mineral jadeite embedded in glassy structures known as shock veins. Shock veins typically form when the parent body of a meteor or asteroid collides with a larger object in space. Heat and pressure from the impact cause rock to melt. It later reforms bearing vein-shaped patterns. 'Impact-induced jadeite has been found from other shocked meteorites. However, a unique point of the Chelyabinsk jadeite is that it seems to have crystallized from melt. To my knowledge, previously reported jadeite in other meteorites is considered to have formed (by solid-state reaction) without melting,' graduate student Shin Ozawa, with Japan's Tohoku University, wrote in an email to Discovery News."
So theres other parts of it somewhere out there
Once a hoodlum always a hoodlum
Table-ized A.I.
That is a whole lot of assumption. We can equally assume that a rock that large hurdling through space at phenomenal speeds towards and away from a massive star could probably be involved in some sort of plasma event. This type of event is why we see comets' tails. In plasma labs right now they are showing these types of markings are burns from plasma events. So... lets not settle this matter with a slash dot press release and what one graduate student from Japan said about his knowledge and his belief.... thanks. Is Jediite created by The Force?
...it too became an abuser, breaking windows through out the city in one hellish tantrum.
He grew up to fast on the hard turf of the andromeda galaxy. Kicked around for millennia earning the name "frosty piss" for his cool demeanor and ammonia composition. Before he was old enough to see a supernova he had already robbed a planet of its only moon and killed many fledgling comets on his rise up the ladder of astro crimes....
It was clearly steered at us, this is proof!
This isn't really a surprise because an interstellar impact is probably what placed it into the path of our orbit to begin with. But hey, I'm no astronomer/astrophysicist/whatever.
A fair number of Russians believe, the "asteroid" was, actually, an American weapon...
You can laugh at fellow American kooks, who suspect American government at everything, but the paranoia — against the same American government — is even wider spread over there.
Even earthquakes and tornadoes are firmly believed by some (or many?) to be triggered by the evil Pentagon or Gosdep (which is what "Department of State" translates as in Russian). I'd offer links, but they are all in Russian...
In Soviet Washington the swamp drains you.
If space had a 3 strikes law, perhaps this never would have happened. Now's the time to be tough on crime and pass some harsher laws! Think of the children!
You see, this long history of crashes just proves that anything over seventy thousand years old should have its license revoked.
...there could have been more territory the Russkies could have added. If only, instead of a diameter of 17 meters, it had been a diameter of 17 kilometers, and dropped along the Russo-Kazakh border, the Russkies could have had all of it, and annexed a bit of Kazakh territory to go w/ it, and Vlad could have had more land to show his people and keep his popularity in the 90%+
