My Neighbor Totoro In Virtual Reality

An anonymous reader writes "Nick Pitton, the developer behind the Spirited Away Boiler Room VR experience, has released his second project: the bus stop scene from Studio Ghibli's famous movie My Neighbor Totoro, once again in virtual reality for the Oculus Rift. Pittom 'hand-painted' the textures in Photoshop to recreated the painted-background feel of the movie. For the characters (Totoro and the Catbus) he used a cel-shaded approached to approximate the animated look from the movie. For his next project, he plans to recreate the ship and characters from the acclaimed anime Cowboy Bebop."

Fuck you. Plenty of people spent that time stockpiling guns that were made illegal. Homicide in Victoria jumped because the fucking mafia decided it was a good time to kill each others' kids, and it dropped off again once they'd all killed each other. Sexual assault and rape are up due to broadened legal definitions and better reporting. NSW still grants you the right to fire on an assailant if you believe they're endangering your life, family or well-being; Victoria doesn't, but they never did; fucked if I know the law in other states, never lived in any of them.

bring back the death penalty - yeah, 'cos that has really cut violent crime rates in America.

If you must have guns, what you need is to stop the idiots getting their hands on them. If you required strict controls over who was a competent person to own a gun, and enforced it strongly, then the media would not be full of disaffected kids shooting up their schools with what appears to be the kind of arsenal found only in action movies. You'd probably find them shooting up the school with their dad's shotgun, but at least it won't kill as many people as the assault rifles they currently use. Which is a start.

Maybe one day you'll figure out that treating guns with respect and storing guns securely is a requirement to owning them in the first place. Maybe one day you'll get past the bullshit politics and ensure all the mentally-unstable people will not be able to get their hands on them at all. Then you'll have progress.
