Seattle Gets Takeout By Amazon
Rambo Tribble (1273454) writes In their ongoing effort to capitalize on local business, Amazon has unveiled a "VERY gradual expansion unless things go gangbusters," of their Amazon Local services, namely takeout food ordering in Seattle. Rivalling smaller, more focused firms in the space, it appears the online giant is trying to wrap recommendations, ordering, and payments in a convenient Amazon bundle. And to think, "word of mouth" used to involve actual mouths.
It still does involve actual mouths. You have to open yours to taste the food to review it.
How is the Riemann zeta function like Trump rallies? Both have an endless number of trivial zeros.
Intrepid hacker discovers a way to intercept drones mid-flight and redirect. Takes food and leaves random garbage. All is chop suey until one day he intercepts a drone carying a kilo of cocane and wants to report it to the cops... but can't cause he'd have to admit to the hacking and theft.
Hollywood gold right there!
Which has more power: the hammer, or the anvil?
Amazon has their value mostly in guaranteed/fast/free shipping and low prices. How are they going to break into this market?
why would anyone want to report a kilo of nose candy to the cops? Party like it's 1979, baby!

I read that as "Seattle gets taken out by Amazon".
Well good.
I should use this sig to advertise my book ISBN-13 : 978-1501515132.
And to think, "word of mouth" used to involve actual mouths.
Maybe we should switch to "word of finger". Although I guess that could be taken the wrong way ...

So, I expect all my take out (and eat in) meals to be delivered by the infamous 'Amazon' by 2032, while I watch John Spartan battle wits with Simon Phoenix?
Well it's about time someone takes out Seattle. Ever since we legalized marijuana, Seattle has just been sitting in a cloud of smoke. I think a date with Amazon will provide the kick Seattle needs to break out of this pot haze and become a productive city of the USA again!
Be seeing you...
fast food delivery by flying drone?
Yeah, like your sister.

I thought we were talking about Amazon. Jeff Bezos is a Democrat, or at least, the overwhelming majority of his political donations are to Democratic Party candidates and causes.

I wonder how this will work with Seatttle's new $15 minimum wage that is coming...
Fuck Amazon. No, really. I live in Seattle, and I'm horrified by the malignant monster that is Amazon, stomping on local businesses and screwing up the city. For years there's been a pleasant clean-cut appearance of the corporate entity, interrupted by an occasional expose about how they burn thru tech workers, and are downright nasty to folks in the warehouses. But the recent visibility of the Sicilian-heavy portion of the corp personality (for example, extorting lower rates from Hachette by posting fake product availability delays) is just the tip of the iceberg. They're no different than WalMart in that way -- they're going to maintain their margin despite the squeeze from high volume shipping and returns... by squeezing the supplier, and the weakest ones get squeezed the hardest.
Which means....
High volume low cost food would be the only thing to survive Amazon's business model, and with local businesses in Seattle taking a hit from the overzealous $15 min wage that just got passed (good intentions gone terribly awry), there's no way that Marco's Noodle House and Jane's Discount Sushi are going to be able to lower their prices enough to compete in the Amazon marketplace. If this gains momentum, a dozen or so high-volume food producers (maybe the likes of Denny's and Old Spaghetti factory, which work at a fast-food volume and pace?) will do well, and every other neighborhood restaurant will get fucked.
drivers need commercial auto insurance to be covered as most plans DO NOT COVER FOOD delivery and then could levee the victim holding the bag for there bills and amazon may get out of it by makeing the drivers independent contractors but still having employee like control over them.

Bullshit. The liquor control board has not allowed a single store to open yet. Also, there are more laws, rules, and fines wrt marijuana than there were before this fake legalization so there have been many more arrests. Also, it is still illegally federally so it is still very hard to find. I have never even seen it in the Seattle area.
Your fucking it up!
Not really. If facts mattered at all to the general public the world would be a different place. Instead its all about "Messaging".
Why is it so hard to only have politicians for a few years, then have them go away?
You misspelled "plutocrat". Which, I suspect, is what the OP really meant.
Well, if he meant Democrat he should have said so.

I can't wait until theirs is the only game in town and only works if you follow a hideously long serious of steps using particular software and browsers.
Think audible for food.
On July 7th the licenses will be given out, and the stores will be able to open on the 8th.
And I'd like to see the evidence of there being more arrests.
Word of mouth still does and always will involve real contact with real people. This kind of "public" online "review" is nothing more than a vehicle for revenue. Can anyone say "Astroturf?"
Heh. When I first read the title of this, I saw, "Seattle gets taken out by Amazon."
It's not Google with the killer robots, it's Amazon! ;)

Then I propose that you are not in the Seattle area. Even before it was legal, I could run across people smoking it on the street twice a week while walking around doing my own business. Now it's about double that. Essentially, everybody who used to smoke pot still does and does so openly. Even before it was generally legal, there were green cards for the giving by sympathetic doctors and stuff being distributed by sympathetic green card holders. Most of the pot enforcement has been on the medical marijuana dispensaries who are openly breaking the law. Even then, there was a news article how the police found suppliers of such growing too many plants, 2000 when they are allowed 45. The police took the extra plants, leaving them with 45, and left without ticketing anybody. If you really are in the Seattle area and haven't seen lots of pot, then you are probably too old to have any connections and your friends are boring.
I seriously doubt you've ever seen it in public here. I've lived here 42 years, and I have never seen marijuana in private, much less in public. It is still illegal to smoke in public even after this half-ass legalization attempt. In fact, this fake legalization effort has actually clarified the law on just how much more illegal it is now. The SPD will still ticket you. The ticket is only $27, but it certainly is illegal.

Born and raised in Seattle (45 years) and I can state for a fact that me & my friends have no problem smoking it outside, on the street. I pass by people almost every day on Capital Hill that are smoking since the decriminalization of it. Before that, I'd run into people smoking weed outside about once a week.
And I'm going to point out, if you've never seen anyone smoke marijuana in private, I'm not surprised you haven't seen anyone smoke it in public. You seem to have a very sheltered life, mainly if you lived in Seattle for 42 years and haven't seen any sight of the mighty marijuana. Shit, I grew up in this christian home, where we had to go to church and follow all those rules. I was a pretty naive kid and a bit sheltered, but I not only had seen marijuana by the time I was in 6th grade, I'd seen peeps smoke it and knew what it smelt like. Yes, in Seattle, the place you claim no one smokes.
We don't care if smoking outside is illegal. We didn't care that smoking weed was illegal a year ago when we smoked it, we didn't care 20 years ago when we were smoking it. It didn't stop us. So thinking that saying it's illegal and you'll get ticketed by the Seattle Pigs is really pointless. We don't give a fuck. Either take a hit off that joint, or pass it.
Be seeing you...

Hah! You probably do all the time but just don't know it.
Then again, you're just an agumentative AC who is probably just trolling.

Pretty much. The police went to great efforts to make sure that if anything happened, their role in legalization was clear, and that pretty much boiled down to that they don't have to give a damn. Sure, there's a ticket for smoking it in public, just like there is for jaywalking. I suspect that Seattle will end up giving out both tickets in the same situations, either because you're really unlucky or talking back to a cop who asked you politely not to do what you are doing. Getting such a ticket will be a mark of honor that you can show your friends from out of state. I've known enough cops to guess that if somebody complained to a cop about not having a legal place to buy it, they'd just look at them funny and say "Jesus Christ, where were you getting it before it was legal? Just back there, they still have it."
