Police Using Dogs To Sniff Out Computer Memory
First time accepted submitter FriendlySolipsist points out a story about Rhode Island Police using a dog to find hidden hard drives. The recent arrival of golden Labrador Thoreau makes Rhode Island the second state in the nation to have a police dog trained to sniff out hard drives, thumb drives and other technological gadgets that could contain child pornography. Thoreau received 22 weeks of training in how to detect devices in exchange for food at the Connecticut State Police Training Academy. Given to the state police by the Connecticut State Police, the dog assisted in its first search warrant in June pinpointing a thumb drive containing child pornography hidden four layers deep in a tin box inside a metal cabinet. That discovery led the police to secure an arrest warrant, Yelle says. “If it has a memory card, he’ll sniff it out,” Detective Adam Houston, Thoreau’s handler, says.
No fucking way. Child pornography is child molestation put on display; it is the child molestor saying: not only did I get away with this, but I made money from doing it. It is the ultimate humiliation of the child, who one day grows up to be a contributing citizen, maybe, or more likley grows up and never reaches their full potential (as is the case with likely more than half of all molested children, I'll wager). There's simply no excuse for not executing, and I do mean killing (though I'd find the application of the term "murder" quite fucking trite -- we are all responsible for the safety of all of our children or we are a failed species plain and fucking simple) these people as soon as we are sure they are guilty. I don't believe the police actually need these dogs in order to catch more of these heinous men (and WOMEN!) who believe it is alright to not only molest a child but then videotape or photograph it and share the thing with others. Recently in Denver a detective was put on desk duty when they discovered child pornography on, I believe, one of his private accounts or computers or something. He retired amidst an investigation. His penalties will be anything but steep unless a posse of good citizens was to get together and take fucking care of one more problem. But such a posse is a dream of a bygone era. We can't trust the police and we certainly can't forgive those who willingly rape the innocent. So what can we do? Smoke weed, I guess...
