"I'm looking forward to new challenges in my career, but I will always cherish the time I spent with you all and the amazing and collaborative teams at Blizzard," Pardo said. "It was both satisfying and humbling, and it made me a better developer and a better person. I look forward to playing Blizzard games as a player for many years to come. Most important, now I have plenty of time to learn how to build a competitive Hearthstone deck."

When they started selling children's Warcraft building blocks

So you're saying that WoW was once a mature Role. Playing. Game. for mature adults who do mature things?

Look, I like RPGs as much as the next person. But I don't pretend that they're sophisticated, exclusive, serious things. WoW is a lot more complex than when it came out, but also with optional features that would appeal to a wider range of people. And, yeah, people can choose to pay to skip the grind - again, no obligation.

The only problem I can see is the embedding of the neoliberal principle that you can only get enjoyment from having something that others don't, rather than judging your own achievements on their own merits. It's amazing how much that principle has pervaded society in the last decade.
