Fabiola Gianotti To Take Over As CERN Director-General

somegeekynick writes "The public face of the ATLAS experiment at CERN which co-discovered the the Higgs-like boson in 2012, Fabiola Gianotti, 52, has been chosen as the next Director-General of the particle physics lab. She'll become the first woman to hold the position. The 5-year term begins on Jan 1, 2016."

    this is like the most prestigious post a female scientist has had, in the physical sciences. I knew one of the previous directors, and he was very laid back, I think she'll do fine.

    I mean, aren't we supposed to be running around in circles talking about how women aren't allowed to hold ranking positions in science and technology, and how we have to "encourage" them in to these fields?

      At this point though I honestly believe a huge chunk of misogyny is coming from trolls egged on by the SJW crowd and the attention they are getting.

      Not saying these attitudes don't exist, just that right now any mention of women anywhere on the internet is going to get spammed with more "get back in the kitchen" garbage than usual, and I think drawing any conclusion from that (besides that trolls gonna troll) is not a great idea.

      I sincerely hope that you're right about that. But either way, there is a big difference between institutionalized bigotry and trash talking. The sad part is that many of the trolls making up half the cyclic war of words are probably SJW bloggers or journalists just stirring the ant hill because the ants give them ad revenue.
