When It Comes To Spy Gear, Many Police Ignore Public Records Laws

v3rgEz writes What should take precedence: State public records laws, or contractual agreements between local police, the FBI, and the privately owned Harris Corporation? That's the question being played out across the country, as agencies are strongly divided on releasing much information, if any, on how they're using Stingray technology to collect and monitor phone metadata without judicial oversight.

No amount of terrorist threats would make me want to surrender our fundamental liberties and allow the government to ignorant the constitution in a country that is supposed to be "the land of the free and the home of the brave." Freedom is simply more important than safety, and the people in the government are merely human beings who make mistakes and are easily corrupted by power. No government throughout history has avoided abusing its people in horrendous ways, not even the US government (internment camps, slavery, Jim Crow laws, Native American massacres, etc.). This makes it very foolish to trust the government with these powers, as well as completely unprincipled.

If you disagree, there's a nice place called North Korea that you might want to move to.
