Man-Shaped Robots Harass Britain Once Again

The UK's terrible string of luck with violent robots continues. The man-shaped metal monstrosities that have plagued the country at seemingly random times throughout history rose up once more yesterday. No one yet knows their source, or what phenomenon — natural or man-made — keeps drawing them to that area of the world. While initial reports indicated trillions of dollars worth of damage and countless lives lost, the re-establishment of communications paints a much more hopeful picture. The British government remains quiet about the situation, politely refusing foreign aid and letting one of their intelligence agencies direct efforts to restore order. Reporters and camera crews are having difficulty documenting the situation — it's not clear whether this is due to interference from the government or simply the chaotic nature of the robot uprising. A medical professional on the scene was quoted as saying, "It's simple, really — even the flattened brick you call a computer can undelete, can't it?"

A great April 2nd story would be how Slashdot drove its readership away with bad April Fool's jokes.
Perhaps Dice outsourced the /. April Fools jokes to Trevor Noah.

I didn't click any links but my guess based on the summary was Cybermen
They should run a story like "Long time contributor Bennett Haselton launches his own blog; will no longer actively contribute to Slashdot". Then run a series of articles written by him tomorrow.

The April fool stories on Slashdot have missed the point of April fools. The idea is to have a story that sounds plausible at first glance, so it fools people, but is obviously a joke on closer inspection. The Slashdot attempts at April fools are just silly, is this an American thing?
Speaking of upgrading, it's a good day to upgrade a browser and an email client.
It's a reflection on the fact that robots are now here for real... when they were still fiction, they were *assumed* to be man-shaped.
Well, they are a bit more intimidating than those rolling upside down wastepaper baskets with the plungers. That's just bad marketing.

The Cybermen are loose again. Either that, or Obama is visiting Great Britain.
Slashdot's web traffic plummets on April 1st because of lame jokes.
They are Labour Party officials out electioneering. Like robots, they won't take No for an answer but keep saying,
"I will return"
If I ever decide to wage war on a country, I will do it on April 1, not September 1st like the 3rd reich. No one will expect that! I'll have 10-15 days of free reign before anyone figures out it's not an April Fools prank. 1)invade the EU on April 1. 2)something something something 3)mumble mumble... 4) profit?
