"After losing a sex-discrimination lawsuit in Silicon Valley last week, Ellen Pao continues on her crusade to bring gender equality to the tech world, but this time with a focus on her home turf. As Reddit’s interim CEO, Pao said she wants to eliminate salary negotiations from the company’s hiring process. In her first interview since the lawsuit, Pao told with the Wall Street Journal Monday that the plan would help level the playing field. 'Men negotiate harder than women do and sometimes women get penalized when they do negotiate,' she said. 'So as part of our recruiting process we don’t negotiate with candidates. We come up with an offer that we think is fair. If you want more equity, we’ll let you swap a little bit of your cash salary for equity, but we aren’t going to reward people who are better negotiators with more compensation.'"

That's some real idiocy you have going on there.

There is no good reason to pay anyone more than you have to to get them to do the work you want (barring e.g. minimum wage). A bad negotiator allows you to pay them less than you would otherwise be willing. A good negotiator gets you to pay as much as you are willing.

So of course, given roughly equal skill/desire, and if you are hiring both, you would pay a good negotiator more than a bad one. You are a fucking idiot and anything you've ever posted is now suspect because of this idiocy you are spouting.

When hiring from one of many, you would pay the good negotiator more if his skills were worth more to you, of course.

Oh! but, but... what a f* bastards! 40 hours/week, and stay by the hiring contract they signed... how they dared!!!???

What will come next? Abolishing slavery!!!???

Not a professional, eh? Especially in STEM, you some times have to stay until the job is done. And some times you travel. And some timese the experiments aren't over in 8 hours with an hour break for lunch plus 2 15 minute breaks at 10 and 3 O'clock.

And horrors, we were all interested in getting the job done.

So that can be a real issue if an employee wants to adopt a 40 hours only outlook. But especially an issue for them, because we were usually enjoying ourselves and our team and focused on getting the job done.

That may or may not be a reason that some women stay away from STEM.
