A Plan On How To Stop Sexism In Science
StartsWithABang writes: If there's nothing else that science has to offer, it's this elegant notion: that anyone, anywhere, at anytime, can investigate and uncover the mysteries and workings of the Universe simply by asking it the right questions in the right ways, listening to its answers, and putting the pieces together for themselves. Anyone can do it. Only, for various and sundry reasons, not everyone gets to do it. Some people don't have the economic ability, some don't have the sustained drive or interest, and some simply can't cut the mustard. But some people — some really, really good people — are driven from their passions for a sad, simple and completely unnecessary fact: that they were treated in unacceptable ways that they refused to just accept. And in a great many cases, that unacceptable treatment came simply because of their gender. Sexism sometimes looks like what you expect, and sometimes not. Here's one opinion on what we can all do about it to create the world we really want: where science really is for everyone.
Slashdot, the daily doze of SJW bullshit, stuff that does not matter. Just publish result of your findings, papers, as anonym or pen-name, no one will fucking care.
^I only said that because the feminists came to our local school and said we had to get rid of the test tubes because they were symbolic of male dominance. There was a dispute and in the end they were happy just to take the big ones.
What alternative, Slashdot-like site can we visit where we get actual tech/science/math news without the social justice and political shit, yet still engage in meaningful discussion?
It surely isn't reddit, or any of its subreddits, because that site is a social justice stronghold. If you don't toe the line, you'll get banned from subreddits without a second thought.
It surely isn't Hacker News, since that site is pretty much just like reddit, but more elitist and totalitarian.
It isn't Pipedot. That site is pretty much dead. Not only does it get almost no comments, but only about one story per day is posted.
It isn't Kuro5hin. That site is deader than Pipedot, plus it was always kind of weird. It was a place with a lot of social rejects.
It may be SoylentNews, but that site has its own set of problems. I visit it maybe once a month, and while it has some good stories and at least some activity, I always have to browse at the lowest mod setting since a lot of superb comments there get unjustifiably modded down for some reason. It defeats the point of having a mod system when I have to view all comments just to see the good ones!
Don't even bother mentioning the various image boards. I don't want to see pictures of cocks all the time, thank you very much.
Usenet died well over a decade ago.
So what are our options? Which websites are left that aren't hell-bent on forcing social justice all the time?
(shrug) I think your histrionic response is a little unjustified.
No, of course "all women" aren't identical, nor are "all men". That's silly.
It's equally silly to deny the idea of "generalization", and to believe that everyone is some sort of uniquely individual snowflake whose behavior can't be roughly categorized. Even snowflakes behave comparably, in large enough masses. There are all sorts of behavioral planes of cleavage through the mass of humanity such as nationality: Japanese behave differently than South Americans, Scandinavians behave differently than sub-Saharan Africans. Curiously, even in their heterogeneity, Americans behave in collective and distinctive ways substantially differently than many of those groups. (look up the fantastic work by Geert Hofstede on that subject). Young people behave differently than old; rich than poor, etc. And yes, women behave differently than men, speaking in broad GENERALIZATIONS.
So I'm going to use the same language you did: stop being so butthurt and grow the fuck up, generalizations are a thing.

Bullshit! Women suffer harassment and discrimination in STEM out of all proprotion to their male counterparts. This is not preferential treatment, it's addressing egregious imbalance.
You, and those that have upvoted this as insightful, are wilfully ignorant.

Seriously, what is this trash and why is it on slashdot?
If the DICE staff don't post their daily "All white heterosexual males are evil" article, they risk losing their Silicon Valley Liberal cards.
SJW's don't eliminate discrimination. They just expropriate it for themselves.
Yes, bring out the popcorn for the Friday night fight where the "Men's Rights Association" guys tell us how bitter they are because they didn't get the free supermodel to play with that they think they deserve.
Google Fights are not a valid method of research. If you look at the actual statistics of gender reassignment surgery, there are greater numbers of MTF transsexuals than FTM transsexuals. Of course, it would be a mistake to attribute this entirely to how men are treated - I think that's a part of it, but there's also the fact that the two surgical procedures aren't equally difficult, or have equally successful outcomes. Not to mention a bunch of other psychological factors. Transgenderism is at its core a psychological issue, despite the accepted narrative being that it is a "gender issue", as if gender and psychology are unrelated. The "LGBTQ" alphabet soup is a convenient way to group various political issues together and push through legislation regarding it (legislation I mostly approve of) but equating sexual attraction to a specific gender with the desire to become another gender is a huge mistake.
