The Lone Gunmen Are Not Dead
He Who Has No Name writes: It may have been one of Slashdot's most memorable front-page gaffes, but apparently there's no harm and no foul — because the Lone Gunmen are set to ride again in the X-Files return. Comicbook.com reports, "The Lone Gunmen, the X-Files' trio of conspiracy theorists, are set to appear in Fox's six-episode event. The three characters were played by Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood. Haglund, who played the gunman 'Ringo,' confirmed his and his compatriots' return on Twitter today." We'll see how see how series creator Chris Carter handles their apparently greatly-exaggerated demise, and whether the explanation used in the print comics comes into play.
Well I hope there return to the show wasn't supposed to be a surpise. Maybe Slashdot could stop posting lone gunmen spoilers as headlines.
They all come walking out of the shower
“He’s not deformed, he’s just drunk!”
Well said.
In the X-Files, the three were portrayed as tech-savvy, conspiracy theorist misfits who nevertheless had meaningful contributions and important roles.
When they got their own series, for some reason, they were turned into silly nutjobs not to be taken seriously. I hope the revival brings back their edge.
I am the lone postman
I live over 13 light years away and am yet to catch that episode!
If any more "Lone Gunmen" make the headlines, even the NRA might have trouble keeping gun hysteria quiet.
Mod me down, I shall become more off-topic than you could possibly imagine.

Full Circle.. the Millenium has arrived.
It's The X-Files. Of course we know who's responsible.
Will Chris Carter make any reference in the show to how the Lone Gunmen presaged 9/11?
So has Slashdot learned its lesson about spoiling shows for people with DVRs and the entire West Coast?

Is the name of the their group based of the JFK conspiracy? It is quite moronic. If their are 3 of them, they aren't exactly lone.

It was supposed to be a surprise twist, you dicks!

132 gunfighters were faster than he, but Ringo was looking for 133.
I just read the link to the article back in 2002 and the real take home message was:
How the heck did Slashdot manage to get an article up fast enough to spoil the show within a 3 hour time window? I did a double take, did they spoil the previous week's episode after it had been discussed on every other site on the internet?
Was slashdot actually fast enough in the past that it published news rather than olds?
I don't think I was alone in thinking the Lone Gunmen series was nearly unwatchable due to an over-reliance on goofy humor, but I'll be goddamned if the pilot wasn't, um, worth rewatching.
This is the elephant in the room that, unfortunately, I don't think anyone is going to have the balls to revist. A TV show about conspiracy theories... began (in March 2001) by showing the main characters just barely managing to prevent an airliner from crashing into the World Trade Center, thus foiling a plot to boost arm sales by provoking a war. The climax is with them pulling back on the stick as hard as they can, just barely missing the top of one of the towers.
But it's all for northing, isn't it? One of the most chilling pieces of television ever produced, but they can't ever refer back to that episode again. Not with the godawful Truthers and out of respect to the victim's families and everything. I sometimes wonder if that isn't why they never again ventured outside of goofball comedy territory, because they nowhere left to turn after September.
X-Files isn't the same without him - *SPOILERS*
Last ep made it very obvious he's dead. Or at least, just a skull remains.
Always read at -1, don't let others decide what you should and should not read.
I got my 14 year old kid to watch X File and The Lone Gunmen a few years ago and he loved it. He's re-watching X Files again. We use to pick out some of the filming sites around here and visit them and compare it to the movies. Even saw the farm house with the black bird covers on Trans Canada Highway past Cache Creek.

I love how someone used the phrase, "I won't Lone Gunmen the review..." (promising not to post spoilers. Yeah, it became a verb. :)
they where great in one off episodes, but as a show it got stale pretty quick. Sort of like a lot of SNL skits that turn to movies, its great for a short stint or episode but gets old and tired after a full hour.
Beavis and Butthead and jackass where also like this if you watched a marathon back to back or the movies. Funny for about 15 minutes but then your ready to change to something else.
The Gunmen briefly reappeared several months later, as ghosts with whom Mulder seemed to be able to communicate. The trio appeared to him alone, at the side of a road on the Texas-New Mexico border at approximately 5:07 a.m., while Mulder was urinating, having stopped off on the way to New Mexico. Apparently, the apparitions of the Lone Gunmen tried to dissuade Mulder from proceeding to New Mexico with Scully and continuing to search for the truth of colonization once there, but Mulder ignored their warnings and continued on his way. (TXF: "The Truth")
In the comic book adaptation of the series The X-Files Season 10â"which takes place after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believeâ"it is revealed that the Lone Gunmen are alive and well, having faked their deaths during the events of "Jump the Shark". The group was aided by the FBI and have since been working underground, aiding the US government; for instance, Langly mentions that he was responsible for the Stuxnet virus in 2010. However, this retcon wouldn't make any sense at all since The Lone Gunmen showed themselves to Mulder as a ghost in the Truth.
It pissed me off when they killed the the lone gunmen off since it was a series I enjoyed. Having them show up as ghosts confirmed the deaths.
It's going to have to be an amazing explanation to explain the whole ghost bit.
I'll enjoy watching x-files again - but I'm flipping my middle finger at the idiots that think that this kind of retcon will relaunch the series.
_ _ _ Go for the eyes Boo! GO FOR THE EYES!
--I KNEW IT!!!
--Totally felt like they weren't really dead all this time. Granted I haven't watched the entire original series run, but just felt like they were still around somewhere/somehow.
