In Windows 10, Ad-Free Solitaire Will Cost You $10 -- Every Year
Wired UK reports that the pre-installed Solitaire on Windows 10 capitalizes on the long-cultivated addiction that some users have to the game with an interesting bargain: rather than being an ordinary included application like it used to be, what may be the world's most pervasive on-screen office time-sink of a game now comes with ads, unless a user wants to pay (by the month, or by the year) to remove those ads. Notes the linked piece: "To be entirely fair, this is the same as on the Windows 8 version, which wasn't installed by default but could be downloaded from the Windows Store."
At $1.49/month or $10/year, this might be enough to drive some people who otherwise would not to check out some of the free, open-source games out there; PySolitaire is one of many in this incomplete list.

Slashdot has ads????
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.........
The only people who actually like Windows are shills and idiots who don't understand security and privacy. "Oh lookie, a brand new shiny from Microsoft with a digital assistant based on a character from a video game! Who cares about all of the information that Microsoft and their partners are mining?"
Windows 10 isn't an operating system, it's a marketing and advertising platform. Ads in the start menu, artificial wholesale collection of user data if you want to be able to use any of the new "features", a keylogger attached to the search function that cannot be disabled and device data collection that cannot be turned off. The search function is also integrated into the Microsoft store, so that it "conveniently" tries to sell you shit while you looking for an application on your PC. All updates are now forced, including the insanely stupid decision to turn automatic driver installation on by default (and even if you disable driver updates, Microsoft can and will just reenable them with one of their forced system updates). Windows Defender can not be disabled permanently, even if you've already got another AV or anti-malware running.
Fuck Windows 10. If Microsoft doesn't address this bullshit, then I think it's finally time to switch to PC-BSD or Linux Mint.
Liar, the upgrade is most definitely not free for life, your data has value M$ is taking and hence you are paying for it. As for permanently blocking updates what do you do about security and the inevitable slew of security bugs. Face it, this is turning out to be an even bigger fuck you from M$ to it's customer than windows 8 was. The very first time you do a security update they can and will hose all your settings, requiring a full check of all settings and some could well have been permanently removed as an option.
