Larry Lessig Reaches Funding Goal and Is Running For President

LetterRip writes: Lessig has met his funding goal of one million dollars, and thus is committed to run for President. ABC reports: "After exceeding his $1 million crowd-funding goal, Harvard Law School professor Larry Lessig announced today on “This Week” that he is running for president. 'I think I'm running to get people to acknowledge the elephant in the room,' he told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. 'We have to recognize -- we have a government that does not work. The stalemate, partisan platform of American politics in Washington right now doesn't work.'”

If you truly believe there are no worthwhile differences in the parties, then I suspect you are not paying attention. That being said, until we can fix our hopelessly broken system, it is the system we have to work within. Here are some ways that may fix/improve the system:

    1) Constitutional amendment that money does not equal speech and corporations are not people. Get money out of the process, as much as possible.
    2) Some kind of well studied instant run off voting system.
    3) Elimination of primary voting. It leads to polarized choices. Let everyone who gets enough signatures be on the ballots. Use this with (2)
    4) Picking elected representatives randomly, after narrowing the pool to insure basic competence.
    5) End the constant campaigning. Limit it to a few months max.
    6) Eliminate districts drawn by politicians. That is just evil. Use a simple mathematical algorithm. I'm sure you will find many good ones online.
    7) Severely restrict who owns news channels. You can't have only a handful of people control most major media and expect fair results.
    8) Fox news needs to be dissolved. Seriously all propaganda channels are bad. They distort reality and lead to non optimal results, at best.
    9) Educate people. Seriously those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. A poorly educated electorate is an easily misled electorate, which may be why some politicians mock those with educations. Without this step you will inevitably have garbage in garbage out, to some extent...
    10) The people must demand nuance. Real world problems are seldom solved with a talking point.
