'RipSec' Goes To Hollywood: How the iCloud Celeb Hack Happened
mask.of.sanity writes: The chief hacker behind the infamous iCloud celebrity hacks has revealed in a documentary how the group dubbed RipSec shook Hollywood by plundering thousands of naked photos and financial data of Tinsel Town icons. The film maker gained access to RipSec using a photoshopped naked image of major TV star who offered access to her iCloud account. "I contacted some of the celebrities and she gave me access to her account," Doering says. "From there I baited them (the hackers)."

Anyone else think this documentary's title is as funny as I do?
Good show!
Social engineering the hackers....
One thing that I noticed is that the average Hollywood Babe is nowhere near as sexy and smoking hot as your average babe from internet porn.
Nubiles.com, Babes.com, Mosteroticteens.com, X-ART.com, etc. all have a stable of women who are orders of magnitudes better looking than any Hollywood Starlet.
If you are looking for hot women, leaked Hollywood Stars ain't where you should go.
hacking is fun times.
Seen Natalie Portman naked and petrified
Is it my poor reading comprehension, or does this summary make little sense?
-apk
in the video snippet they posted.
That's one reason why you're not getting a deal with a film distributor.
"stolen or guessed iCloud login credentials to gain access to photos [and] restored iCloud backups [giving them] photos from MMS messages [even those] erased from user phones"
go away and die
that actually sounds like an interesting move to throw yourself on the knife like that to help someone get to the bottom of the situation like that. I'm actually a litter interested if this unnamed female celebrity has any tech savy and if that contributed to her decision to say yes.
>The Register has agreed to suppress the identity of the actress to avoid making her a target of hackers.
yeah shame about that because that's an AMA i'd participate in.
Why is he the "so-called Donald Trump". He may, or may not, be a lot of things. But I think we're all pretty sure that he is, in fact, actually Donald Trump.
Give a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. But light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
The alleged RipSec administrator's responses sound scripted and rehearsed. And he sounds overly cocky. The voice/appearance is heavily disguised, so the admin could actually be the narrator in a hoodie for all you know.
Watched the clip from the film. Several small signs betray the supposed interviewee as a not-very-good actor reading a script. So either that script consists of emails from the actual RipSec guy (in which case that fact should be stated more clearly in the disclaimer at 0:09), or this is a complete fake. Documentary makers - be honest about your little dramatic flourishes, or your whole story becomes suspect. YOU become suspect.
They go to interviewing the BlackHat admin. So the BlackHat admin brought his computer and brought his screen with him and a script going in the background, yet he wears a hoody and masks his voice? Something is a little off here.
Let's see the birth certificate.
the preceding comment is my own and in no way reflects the opinion of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Just curious... How do you know so much about the Donald? Sure he's a blow hard, but either you're illiterate (US spells civilization with a z) or you are British? Neither, it seems to me, qualify you to offer even a passing comment.
Off topic. It's at least partially true, but it's off topic.
I think we've pushed this "anyone can grow up to be president" thing too far.
In spite of this, I still believe that the bulk of the pics were the results of late night Sys Admins' perusal of data files.
