Matthew Garrett Forks the Linux Kernel
jones_supa writes: Just like Sarah Sharp, Linux developer Matthew Garrett has gotten fed up with the unprofessional development culture surrounding the kernel. "I remember having to deal with interminable arguments over the naming of an interface because Linus has an undying hatred of BSD securelevel, or having my name forever associated with the deepthroating of Microsoft because Linus couldn't be bothered asking questions about the reasoning behind a design before trashing it," Garrett writes. He has chosen to go his own way, and has forked the Linux kernel and added patches that implement a BSD-style securelevel interface. Over time it is expected to pick up some of the power management code that Garrett is working on, and we shall see where it goes from there.
Just another attention-whoring SJW.
SJW Linux v1.0
Now with kernel-level privilege checks.
Maybe if Eich wasn't a bigot, DRM wouldn't be in Mozilla right now. Lesson: Don't be a bigot.
And yet even completely reviewable code has bugs, backdoors and security escalations. Sometimes that exist for decades.
So when it's the NSA developing the code, you worry even more about purposeful, obfuscated backdoors put in.
But, yeah, why don't you just hand wave it away.
Not when the "talent" is a group of shit-stirring SJWs. Those people are far more toxic to a community.
You can be a super-smart, cocky A type who's done more for your project than anyone else combined, who likes to be forceful, curt and to the point AND still not be a cunt.
Not to Millennials. Welcome to the new "everyone gets a trophy" culture of today's youth. The problem is that Linus grew up in a world where you only got an A if you were successful. In the new Millennial SJW order, it doesn't matter what you do or how well you do it, all that matters is how much of a minority you can claim. (So all white males get an F regardless of what they do, and to get an A you must be a black disabled lesbian. Well, except that we can't give anyone an F, so that's been inflated to a B-.)
The whole "Linus is being mean" thing comes out of this pointless "everyone gets a trophy" culture. Pointing out any flaws becomes a "toxic culture."
Screw that. The general consensus I'm getting is that the kernel is better off without the whiney SJW Millennials screwing everything up.
And he isn't coming into your home or office and berating you in person.
And that makes a difference... how, exactly?
Because you are apparently too dense to understand the difference between:
- A random person, who you've never met and who is 4000 miles away, calling you an asshole on a mailing list
- Your boss, who controls whether or not you continue to be employed, calling you an asshole to your face.
Sarkeesian's entire claim to fame now is, "I was harassed for my opinions... they... they called me a liar and said I suck... just like everyone does to everyone else on the internet. Don't they know I'm a women? You can't say mean things about women... unless they disagree with me, then screw that bitch. WHERE'S MY ARMY OF FEMINIST!!."
I almost can't wait for 5-10 years down the road when she's completely irrelevant and everyone's making fun of her like they do to Jack Thompson now for having the exact same argument he had.
