One US Oil Field a Key Culprit In Global Ethane Gas Increase
An anonymous reader writes: According to scientists, a single U.S. shale oil field is responsible for much of the past decade's increase in global atmospheric levels of ethane, a gas that can damage air quality and impact climate. The Bakken Formation, an oil and gas field in North Dakota and Montana is spewing nearly 2% of the globe's ethane. That translates to about 250,000 tons each year. "Two percent might not sound like a lot, but the emissions we observed in this single region are 10 to 100 times larger than reported in inventories. They directly impact air quality across North America. And they're sufficient to explain much of the global shift in ethane concentrations," said Eric Kort, U-M assistant professor of climate and space sciences and engineering. The Washington Post has more details (paywalled; alternatively you can read this Gizmodo report)
Ha ha didn't take long until some butthurt libertard marked it down. They can never handle the truth.

Libtard logic: you disagree with Obama so you must be a racist.
Corollary: if you dislike the idea of fellating a black penis, clearly you are racist and (if male) a homophobe.
Observation: if you question "Climate Change" (used to be Global Cooling, then Global Warming, now Climate Change) in a skeptical scientific manner, you will face all sorts of social pressures that amount to finger-pointing and name-calling. How... scientific! Oh, and good luck ever getting a degree or career in anything even slightly related to meteorology if you question it. Isn't it funny how professors are all about Climate Change ... until they achieve tenure, then they start becoming openly skeptical in droves? Nah, must be coincidence, that their careers were at stake has NOTHING to do with it, the same way that lobbyist money is just a "donation" and has NOTHING to do with how politicians vote.
To those who thought science was always all about truth and was exempt from all forms of priesthood, well, it's a rude awakening. It's normal (though embarassing) to get angry at someone who points this out. Al Gore made this political. When he did that, he brought boatloads of money into it. Upon careful investigation, you will find that all human endeavors can be corrupted by monied interests. There were onces doctors promoting the "health benefits" of smoking cigarettes. The food and pharmaceutical industries have proven that you can buy whatever "scientific study" you want. Consensus is politically motivated, fashionable groupthink if it's based on anything other than reproducible fact.
