HAARP Holds Open House To Dispel Rumors Of Mind Control (adn.com)

An anonymous Slashdot reader writes: HAARP -- the former Air Force/Navy/DARPA research program in Alaska -- will host an open house Saturday where "We hope to show people that it is not capable of mind control and not capable of weather control and all the other things it's been accused of..." said Sue Mitchell, spokesperson for the geophysical institute at the University of Alaska. "We hope that people will be able to see the actual science of it." HAARP, which was turned over to The University of Alaska last August, has been blamed for poor crop yields in Russia, with conspiracy theorists also warning of "a super weapon capable of mind control or weather control, with enough juice to trigger hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes."

The facility's 180 high-frequency antennas -- spread across 33 acres -- will be made available for public tours, and there will also be interactive displays and an unmanned aircraft 'petting zoo'. The Alaska Dispatch News describes it as "one of the world's few centers for high-power and high-frequency study of the ionosphere... important because radio waves used for communication and navigation reflect back to Earth, allowing long-distance, short-wave broadcasting."

Lol that's why they are "getting together" to "dispell" rumors. Why don't they turn on their big brainwasher and use that to dispell rumors.

How sad that so many Americans could seriously believe in this bullshit, but that's what happens when you're fed a steady diet of FOX News and a constant drumbeat of right-wing conspiracy theories.

That one of our preeminent research facilities would be compelled to hold an open house to show that they're not involved in "mind control" is a sad and embarrassing commentary on the state of this country.

It seems odd to you that the US military would waste billions of dollars on a silly idea? It seems odd to you that they'd spend those billions in the least likely place?

Oh, to be young and ignorant again...let me clue you in on recent events. Well not recent, more like 15 years ago. There was this little incident involving some airplanes and a couple of towers, World Trade...something or other, feel free to look it up on Google. Anyway, it was clear from the very beginning, covered by every major news outlet that covered the "event," that the people who hijacked these planes were a majority of Saudi Arabian nationals. Recently declassified reports suggest what everyone's already known for over a decade.

What did the US military do? They bombed, shot and tortured the shit out of Afghanistan, that's what. Take a look at Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan on a map, try and tell me how the most advanced military force on the earth missed THAT BADLY. Of course it was all for perfectly good reasons! The Taliban were Muslim extremists (and probably still are), they were committing atrocities no better than what's happening in Syria today. Plus, being evil Muslims, they had to have been funnelling cash and resources to al-Qaeda somehow, because that's what evil Muslims do apparently. That was the ONLY justification for going to "war" in Afghanistan. There were some bad Muslims there and bad Muslims (from an entirely different country, mind) were responsible for the attack. The American public lapped it up like it was Donald Trump's own jizz-puddle because they wanted revenge, not justice. Easy to understand I suppose.

What's not so easy to understand is how they missed TWICE, because there are two infinite wars the US is currently engaged in...the second one in Iraq. Again, check that old map out and see if you can spot the difference between Iraq and Saudi Arabia. I'm sure you can do it, which makes it curious to think how the Americans couldn't.

Of course, they had good reasons this time as well! Saddam Hussein was not a terrorist, I doubt his religious background was of any significance...but he was developing weapons of mass destruction! We know that because Colin Powell showed us some pictures of a theoretical "moving chemical lab" in a truck that never existed, with a very serious expression on his face to boot. UN inspectors failed to find a thing, but they weren't given much time as they were swiftly rushed out of the country so the Americans could bomb, shoot and torture the shit out of more brown people. No weapons ever found and in the power vacuum created by toppling Hussein (who while thoroughly evil detested terrorists to the point that they didn't have much of a lifespan in post-war Iraq), ISIS moved straight in. Now America's fighting infinite war number three, against an enemy that only exists because of their terminal screw-ups over the past 15 years.

The American military spending billions in tax dollars on pointless wars isn't even new at this point. While you're on Google you might want to look up a little country called Vietnam. Maybe search for "Bay of Pigs Invasion" if you're really up for a little reading. Those who forget history aren't doomed to repeat it...they're doomed to be killed in wars that will never end, for reasons that even the soldiers on the ground can't make sense of. All the while the senators, super PACs and other Washington trash are counting the money, avoiding any count of the civilian casualties.

Oh it gets even better. Maybe you've heard a little bit about the NSA recently. You see, in their efforts to combat terrorists that again, were already dead in a plane crash that occurred more than a decade ago, the NSA collaborated with other countries to create a total, pervasive surveillance system for the entire Internet. Sure, most of the people they've actually targeted were legal protestors and human rights activists, two groups of people that Americans hate almost as much as they hate blacks. Protest the Keystone XL pipeline? You're on a watchlist, my friend. Come from a country with a Muslim population? Wearing a hijab? Be prepared to be groped, violated and generally pestered by the TSA, THEN added to a watch list.

    Open your fucking eyes.
