Nintendo NX Will Be Officially Revealed Tomorrow (gamespot.com)
An anonymous reader quotes a report from GameSpot: Nintendo confirmed this evening that it will broadcast new details about the company's next big console on Thursday, October 20 at 7am PT | 10am ET. We don't yet know how long it'll be. We don't know if we'll see games or hardware. But it's going to be exciting. Notably, Nintendo calls the announcement a "trailer" and not a full direct presentation. But regardless, we'll update this page tomorrow with a link to whatever Nintendo unveils. While we've known about the NX for quite a while, Nintendo has been stoic on any specific details. Back in 2015, the device was rumored to be a console/handheld hybrid, and current speculation says the device will use cartridges. But no matter what it looks like, Nintendo has confirmed two things: it's slated to launch in March of 2017, and it will be able to play the upcoming Zelda game Breath of the Wild. Nintendo of America tweeted about the big news earlier today, alongside a picture of Mario: "Be among the first to discover #NX. Watch the Preview Trailer at 7am PT/10am ET!"

PIX OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN!
Why don't you wait until tomorrow to post some actual news, rather than this meta future news?
Nintendo is exiting the game biz and exploring the possibilities of the bagel biz. NX is its first bagel flavor.
What is "Nintendo"?
What is "Ninetendo"?
I like owning physical things. I don't like buying a "license" to some software which can be modified or cancelled remotely at any time.
I hope Nintendo do this right.
Rumor has been, as the summary says, that the NX will be a console/handheld hybrid. However, that's not a particularly novel idea, as it's basically what the Nvidia SHIELD is, and I thought up the idea years ago thinking it obvious. Nintendo said they didn't want to reveal what their system was too early, since they didn't want to be copied by competitors.
I don't blame them much, given that Sony and Microsoft jumped on the motion-control bandwagon after the success of the Wii... but being coy doesn't give them any additional lead time. If Sony/Microsoft believe the rumors, and want to do what Nintendo is doing because it'll surely lead to success (not a guarantee given the Wii U), then they could start designing a hybrid device before the official reveal. If they're going to take a wait-and-see approach to see if this Nintendo idea pans out and has any success, then it doesn't matter how early the concept is revealed. Perhaps Nintendo is aping Apple by being secretive and then having a big reveal shortly (5 months) before it's available for purchase, so that all of their marketing momentum is concentrated within a short span of time. Considering Pokemon is traditionally a handheld series, and if this is a handheld/console hybrid, there could plausibly be a mainline Pokemon game on it. There might be a 3ds-like resolution when portable, and you plug it in to a TV for higher resolution. The console has been in the works so long I don't think it'll have much/any support for 4k.
If they say "Surprise! we were working on self-contained portable VR this whole time! and you can plug it in so the chips increase their clock speed for better graphics. At $299!" then I'll be impressed.
Corruption is convincing someone that the selfless ideal is the same as their selfish ideal.
If they fail to show hardware and games, it's just another pointless, stupid trailer for what is more and more sounding like a new DS with a TV connector....
Considering all the varied things that rumor sites have predicted it would do, a french fry maker would be right in line. The first combination console / portable / kitchen appliance!

New console is the Nintendo Switch.
It appears most of the leaks regarding the form factor are correct. Two small controllers slide onto the sides of an ~6 inch screen. They can be detached and used separately by one or two players. A battery module was shown with them attached. A separate, traditional, controller was shown.
The screen module slips into a dock to connect to the TV.
Games shown included Skyrim (surprise!), an basketball game, Splatoon (paintball shooter), Mario, and Zelda. No word if these were actual titles or just demonstrations of potential software.
Release is March 2017, no price yet.
