Facebook is Bringing Its Social Network To TV, Video App Announced For Apple's and Amazon's Set-Top Boxes (recode.net)
Facebook is making perhaps its biggest push yet to turn the social network into a destination for watching video with a new Facebook Video app for smart TVs. From a report on Recode: The social network on Tuesday announced a new app for set-top boxes, including Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and the Samsung Smart TV. The app will let you watch the same kinds of video you can already find on Facebook, but (presumably) on a much larger screen. Dan Rose, Facebook's VP of Partnerships, announced the new app at the Code Media conference at the Ritz-Carlton in Dana Point, Calif. The new app, which will launch "soon," gives Facebook yet another way to reach consumers interested in videos and, most likely, another platform to sell video ads.
Nope. Facebook....Not. Even. Once.
Brought to you by the Ad Council. Remember. Just say no.
I'm never going to leave home now. DAMN YOU FACEBOOK!
The rest of the world can go buy these things, allowing these so-called "content creators" make more clips to make you even want to buy MORE of their stuff, or their shiny accessories, or their gizmos.
I'll just take the single serving, thankyouverymuch. Because Mr. anti-social here is NOT the contents of his wallet, nor his khakis.
WARNING: Smartphones have side effects--most of them undocumented.
Please, no more "social media" apps for stuff that I own... PLEASE!
You are invading my anti-social safe space...I need my privacy...

You know, you could just not -- you know -- use it.
Just what I need: A TV that not only spies on me but lies to my face as well.
The future of IoT and smart consumer electronics is bloatware. Sure, security or lack of thereof is in the headlines right now. This technical issue will be solved. However, bloatware like this app is here to stay. Manufacturers will be paid to install apps like these and they will spy on you for profit.
My prediction is that in a year or so you won't be able to buy a TV without this crap installed.
What could possibly go wrong (*MySpace*).

We already have Ad-Free YouTube Red, Ad-Free Netflix, Ad-Free Prime, and Ad-Free Hulu. Facebook need not apply.
Facebook's video offerings for live video on the desktop SUCK (forcing you to go through OBS and other shit,) mobile app is bloated as a dead whale considering what it does, I can only imagine the FB 'app' bogging down any TV to where you'll be stuck with 480x720 vertical (because idiots with phones) video because the processor in the TV will be bogged down by the bloated 'app.'
Even on my Droid phone, fairly powerful, FB Live SUCKS. Tinychat and Camfrog do not have this problem.
Still waiting on Serviscope_minor to wake up to fucking reality and realize that Jessica Price isn't going to fuck him.
Hear a resounding "thud" in their head when they read this? I'm sure this will be extremely popular with precisely no one.
gross
ironic captcha is ironic: trusts
Do I have to turn my TV sideways 90Â like I do my phone, or do I have to live with huge bars on the side on every tiny video?
(Disclosure - I own FB stock, even though I'm making fun of this app).
Clearly this can't work well without YouTube style videos.
Facebook TV?
That's another channel I'll never watch, but thanks for the warning!
Just cruising through this digital world at 33 1/3 rpm...
I really can't think of anything I want less on my TV, except for maybe that unfunny fat little shit James Corden who somehow has won over stupid people into thinking he is entertaining. Anyway, annoying notifications while you are watching things. Data mining the shows you watch etc, resulting in anti-social media ruining my favourite anti-social activity and more targeted advertising. Fuck facebook.
Hmm, I don't think social media apps are as social as you think, they're more designed to give you the feeling of being social with a small fraction of the actual experience
