The solution should be massive electrification of freight rail in the US. Regardless of opinions about passenger rail, rail freeight is extremely efficient. Friction from steel wheels on steel rails is much lower than rubber on road, and it can be powered using electricity without lugging fuel, batteries, and/or an engine around.
By the way electric rail for passengers could be a viable alternative to private transportation. This need planning and investments.
Operations research is less cool than AI for self driving cars but making public transportation more efficient could be a better investment. Unfortunately the urban sprawl that was made viable by the automobile makes difficult for big suburban areas to have good public transport.
In the '60 electric freight trains were used a lot. like this rail in Turin, used only by FIAT freight trains, and still used in the '80s (note the Fiat Ritmo that were carried).
In the '50 in Italy were used electric lorries using overhead wires powered by an hydroelectric central that was an hack made because the road was steep for the engines of the time and for the electric company, electricity was cheap.
For public transportation the problem of electric vehicles was solved more than 100 years ago with trams. Start to put back tramways and overhead wires for the trolleybuses, this could be done now, with proven technologies. It's not hip for a millenial, maybe.
Poison Ivy burger are an Italian food, it's not vegan due the eggs used. Was a food for poor people, but it's nice as a side dish. Similar recipes are with rape leaves, spinaches, borage and so on.
It's also a nice recycling method of recycle weeds instead to throw away or burn them.
Macintosh and Apple II are PC, personal computers, to be nitpicky.
Of course Windows doesn't run on AS400 mini or S/360 mainframes.
Note to myself: prepare the VMS prank and dust off the VT220 and the Microvax II before April 1st
Ex voto are full of paintigs of people that exited alive from accident with horses and oxen, sign that road accidents with fatal consequnces happened when the traction systems were equipped with a natural intelligence driving system, so to speak. An I don't think that in the near future a computer could be smarter than a horse or an ox.
To be a good politician one has to learn the rules and the skill needed. It's like thinking that about everyone could be a CEO or a CFO. Even being a manager in the private sector doesn't map well with the skills needed on the public sector.
Case in point: both in Italy and in US make a real estate entrepreneur president didn't work very well.
ObDrWho a lot of eggs could lead to exterminate.
An highet compsunction of eggs could be correlated to some other unhealthy foods. By the way the eggs were boiled, fried or stirred with ham and cheese? It could make a difference.
A four/on/the floor bass drum and a hi hats on 16ths, with a looping bass could work with death metal and absoluley are working with rock / Ask Rod Stewart, Kiss, Queen or Pink Floyd...
Wrong... a genetic predisposition has a role on diabetes development. There are fat people without diabetes and slim people that got type 2 diabetes. Eating too much refined carbohydrates could cause reactive hypoglycaemia that in turn cause more hunger.
This is simply not true. It's a genetic predisposition, that is easily triggered by an high carbohydrate diet. The fact there are morbidly obese people without diabetes is sign that isn't the cause. On the contrary people with pre-diabetes and reactive hypoglycaemia couls suffer for increased hunger and overeat.
The fact is that all types of diabetes have a genetic root. Some studies found that in families with people with Type 1 (or LADA) there were also people with Type 2. By the way eating too much of carbohydrates doesn't cause diabetes because there are a lot of fat people without diabetes. The problem with Type 2 is that is a slowly evolving condition and could pass undetected for years, add to this that having an healthy food habit will reduce the effects of diabetes, T2 could pass undetected. T1 on the other hand has a clear and fast onset. Sometime even a LADA, because it's slower to evolve could be misdiagnosed for T2.
And some people by the way could get MODY type diabetes that are also different.
I have also to add that the dietary information one could gather from media and even doctors and nurses is misleading or plain wrong. Like the story that eggs are a bad food, it's false because the test were made on rabbits, or the lactose free and gluten free sold for healthier alternatives, or low fat version of put that are loaded with sugars and flavours because otherwise they are tasting like crap.
Another this to note is that modern heavily processed foods using highly refined sugars and grain are less healthier than the same food made at home or made like 40 years ago.
I think that due the proliferation of smartphones and social media spreading propaganda is way, way easier than what happened in the Cold War. To listen to Voice of Russia or Voice of America one had to use a short wave receiver and knowingly what was tuning in.
Nowadays it's difficult for an user of social media to know where they are readin is coming from, so propaganda is way sthealthier. and really pervasive about it.
On top of this, the flagship models are expensive when lower end model are fully adequate for most users, and actually flagship models have less capabilities like headphone jacks and SD card slots. Older flagship models are still quite capable nowadays so people aren't interested to upgrade. It's almost the same thing happened on personal computers. People are still buying PC but is a substitution market.
These devices are a new incarnation of the thin client and the terminal connected to a central server or mainframe.
The biggest difference is that the user doesn't see is connecting to a central server and the protocol is hidden. Even if the gadget was using an open protocol the end user doesn't notice it. So use the terminal to connect to another system is impossible and the end user doesn't even know that there is a phone number dialled.
Minitel was the retro thing most similar to these assistants. When the system was shut down was at the end of the life, and most users were gone. Not to mention that the system wasn't operated by a private entity but from a public telephone company that was foguse to give services to the population and not to slurp some VC money as fast it could.
I have for them this old advertising. By the way I have a flat VOIP number with a landline number and unlimited calls and I am using the exact white and light cyan phone you see there. Excellent audio quality.I don't understand why people doesn't make phone calls, I know that whatsapp does more than phone call, but I know also that cost isn't a problem because nowadays there are a lot of flat plans with it.
Una telefonata allunga la vita
From what I have read the system is running on an AS/400, that now is called in IBM iSeries and hardware and operating system is still supported and sold by them. It's not like they were using an Olivetti M20, an Apple// or an Amiga 2000.
Hardware is rugged so if the computer is not failg there's no necessity to change it, and if you need a new hardware, I suppose that ona could find a lot of IBM salespeople eager to sell you one.
If vendors would offer that as an option I expect they would be surprised how many people would take it.
I'd be surprised if many did take it. Almost everything I know about marketing says that the segment of the market that cares that much about this is minuscule. The ones that don't will continue to use price as a prime criterion for their purchase decision.
People that are using price as criterion are going to the cheaper brands, especially the ones that in CRT era were famous for their quality, like Telefunken, Nordmende, Saba or Akai.
On the other hand most people don't understand all the TV features, I know people that have bought a new TV with terrestrial and satellite tuner without having a satellite dish because it was a special offer and was cheap, same thing goes for smart options or similar things.
Most people are ok with normal TV and actually don't mind extra features because the TV are nowasays cheap. I remember when having the Teletext option on a TV meant to have to pay for an extra board installed, so nobody used Teletext, then Teletext was included on the mainboard and people simply didn'use it...
Some smaller shops in the 50s used wired wireless with some special programmes without advertising, one was classica muic and the other was pop rock music, and they were produced and broadcasted by the public radio. Nowadays you can receive them and a lot more channels from either satellites, DAB or DVB-T.
Some specialized channel are transmitted by satellite for some big malls.
Now, a question arises, if one band likes to distribute a physical object, why not distribute a Compact Disc Digital Audio? There is also the small 8 cm standard for singles, you have a way better sonic quality.
Some boomboxes with CD are still made, unfortunately they now aren't normally noisy and with bling of the ones made in the 90s, and of course if you are an hi-fi nut you can still buy high quality separates.
If you are an indie band you can easily make a small run of CD-R and if you plan to make more than 500 copies make a glass master press cost less than blank CD-R, you have to prepare the artwork and the master and send to a CD pressing factory. A nice CD with a good artwork in a jewel case makes always a good impression.
Wit trolley no batteries no needed, or really smaller ones, you can get away with lead acid ones. It's a mature tecnology and is well suited for public transportation
I am from Italy. I have three items that are "Made in USA". A Kitchenaid, a pair of headphones and a GE toaster that was a gift for the marriage of my parents. I can attest that USA is exporting things abroad and are normally built to last.
On the other hand I bought an IKEA (of sweden) kitchen, and the appliances were "Made in Italy" like most of the furniture with a bit of surprise, expecting to get them from asian countries. I think for the wooden parts is a logistic problem because normally kitchens are built just in time so the factory has to be near the customer. But the oven was interesting... because most electric gadgets in IKEA were made in China

They are currently selling Alexia CDs. Why they have to listen to mine?
Not poison ivy, but nettle if you have noticed. This one to be clear

Because in the future due the fall of western society the economy will return to barter.
