Amazon Plans Cuts to Shed Whole Foods' Pricey Image (bloomberg.com)

When Amazon completes its acquisition of Whole Foods Market, Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos will try to keep the grocer's reputation for premium fresh foods while cutting prices to shed its "Whole Paycheck" image. From a report: Amazon expects to reduce headcount and change inventory to lower prices and make Whole Foods competitive with Wal-Mart Stores and other big-box retailers, according to a person with knowledge of the company's grocery plans. That included potentially using technology to eliminate cashiers. Amazon, known for its competitive prices, is trying to attract more low- and middle-income shoppers with its grocery push. The Seattle-based company already offers discounted Amazon Prime memberships for people receiving government assistance and is part of a pilot program to deliver groceries to food-stamp recipients.

Here in flyover country most of the people encountered in Walmart are decent and ordinary.

Uhm, no. Most of flyover country is redneck. The characterization of the GP is dead on correct; angry, goateed, tattooed, shirtless redneck trash walking around looking for trouble, surrounded by a passel of morbidly obese women and filthy kids smelling of pets and urine, shamelessly yelling at each other. They can't make it from the exit to their neglected, clapped out vehicles without a squabble and if you make eye contact while not wearing an MC cut you stand a non-zero chance of getting assaulted. If they find out you own anything they can carry off and trade for a hit of meth they'll dwell on it till they think you've left the place unoccupied and come through a window. Have a traffic altercation and you'll end up shooting a couple to survive, so you best get a CCW.

I live in it bro. Same shit for 50 miles in every direction.

You snowflakes best stick to your urban jungles and find someone to deliver your groceries.

Also not everyone who shops at Wal-Mart is trash. There are people who are barley getting by and shop at Wal-Mart because they cannot afford to drop their entire paycheck on groceries.

Wrong, in the opinion of the AC you're replying to. According to him and other people like him, those people are trash, by definition, because they don't have a lot of money. He's probably an evangelical Christian Republican; their entire theology is that God loves rich people more, and that's why they're rich, and poor people have been shunned by God don't get his blessings and that's why they're poor.
