In Which Linus Torvalds Makes An 'Init' Joke (lkml.org)

Long-time Slashdot reader jawtheshark writes: In a recent Linux Kernel Mailing List post, Linux Torvalds finishes his mail with a little poke towards a certain init system. It is a very faint criticism, compared to his usual style. While Linus has no direct influence on the "choices" of distro maintainers, his opinion is usually valued.
In a discussion about how to set rlimit default values for setuid execs, Linus concluded his email by writing, "And yes, a large part of this may be that I no longer feel like I can trust "init" to do the sane thing. You all presumably know why."

Those aren't actual bugs that exist, those are blah-blahs you heard on IRC and repeated. Don't be a dill weed, man, evolve, evolve!

If you read the actual email in question, this isn't some kind of bug being ignored but a disagreement over where rlimit should come from, in response to a certain type of attack that has to be dealt with. He's only saying he doesn't like any of the solutions, and the one he prefers is because he wants the kernel to have more control, rather than init.

At least try to understand the basics of the technical issues before you let your neckbeard try to explain them.

Systemd makes it so that even the root user can't modify the logs to prevent the case where someone compromises the system and then hides their tracks. That is just one example of how you are talking out your ass.

I understand it better than you. I too had the same thoughts initially. The difference between us? I actually educated myself on the approach they are using and understand it, while you continue to refuse to learn anything new and just keep spouting idiotic misinformation on Slashdot.
