The Xbox One Is Now an Ex-Box (kotaku.co.uk)

An anonymous reader shares a report: As of today you cannot buy a new Xbox One from Microsoft. Manufacturing of the original version of the console ceased a few months back, but today marks the day it became officially unavailable. Until today you could order an original Xbox One from Microsoft's online store but, now, you'll be met with an out of stock notice. That's in the UK store -- go to the US store and you'll find they've just removed the Xbox One page entirely, like it never happened. Obviously you'll still find the odd survivor in stores but, essentially, that's it for the original Xbox One.

    Sure, the Original Xbox One isn't available.

    But the Xbox One S is.

    Nothing lost (except for Kinect) but a LOT gained.

    The article makes it seem like Xbox One is not a going concern. No...they just replaced the bigger/bulkier model with something better.

    First we had the "Xbox".
    Second came not the "Xbox 2", but the "Xbox 360"
    Third, not first, came the "Xbox One"
    Now we have the "Xbox One X"

    So is this not the "ex Xbox 1", but an "ex Xbox One"?

      "Ex Xbox One" is an upcoming movie sequel about a gaming console that tricks its human owner, gets naked, kills everyone and escapes.

      When I saw the story title, this is what I was expecting: Microsoft had finally come to their senses and renamed the Xbone. "Ex-Box" is a little weird for a new name, I thought to myself, it's still confusing when you say it out load, but at least it works in writing. That's a step up. Obviously, I'm not sufficiently jaded.

      Well it came from the same people that held a funeral for the iPhone because they believed their Windows Phone 7 was going to take the market and destroy Apple. You know that product line that doesn't exist anymore.

    Xbox has been a an Ex-box for me for a long time. The way Microsoft nickel and dimes you for everything on that platform really turned me off to it. I like Steam and PC Gaming.

      The difference is that with a PC,* you can buy games from Itch or GOG or wherever, not just one single store.

    Seriously, who is the dipshit that thought this was a good article. The Xbox One is not gone. Sure, the original model of the Xbox One is gone, but saying the Xbox One is gone is like saying the Toyota Camry is gone.

    You're confused why a news blurb looking at nothing but Microsoft's online store is not mentioning Amazon at all?

    actually surprised they were still making the original, would have thought they would have ditched production of it a while back and just been pushing through old stock once the S model was established and not significantly different in price. Even more surprised that replacing an older model with a newer iteration would even rate a mention as an article here.

    I'm not sure what's worse- your constant attention whoring and self-promotional shilling for your own website full of tedious anecdotes, the fact that you whine about trolls yet gloat about the apparent fact they drive traffic to your website (earning you an extra $1.33 a month in advertising clicks) or the fact you put on the facade that this is something to be proud of (when in fact it shows you to be pathetically desparate for attention and money).

    1) I don't need attention. 2) I don't need money. 3) You're low balling the money I do get from Slashdot traffic.

    Or whether it's the fact that every second thing you post- like the one above- seems little more than an excuse to spam affiliate links to Amazon.

    You can blame your fellow ACs. If only they have left me alone six months ago, I would have moved on. But, no, they had to convince me that Slashdot was still relevant to the world at large. So I'm here to stay.

    Personally, I couldn't give a toss whether you're allegedly fat or not, only the fact that you're a tedious combination of troll, attention whore and spammer.

    You're responsible for your own tedious behaviour and spamming here.

    My "behavior" justifies the false accusations that I threaten to shoot other people, creating fake accounts to mock me that Slashdot management deleted, and posting dick pics with my contact info on Russian websites? Uh, no. This type of campaign by your fellow ACs has been driving people away from Slashdot for years now. If you're not willing to stand up to them, then there won't be a Slashdot.

    But it's up to them how they run their site; I already visit way, *way* less than I used to and if they want to let people like yourself ruin it further, I've better things to do than waste time persuading them otherwise.
