80% of UK Government IT Projects Suffer Delays Due To Tax Clampdown (theregister.co.uk)
An anonymous reader shares a report: The vast majority of UK government IT projects are suffering delays due to freelancers quitting over the IR35 tax clampdown, according to a survey of contractors. Of 405 IT freelancers surveyed by Contractor Calculator, 79 per cent said the projects they have been working on were delayed as a result of contractors leaving. In April, the government shifted responsibility for compliance with the IR35 legislation from the individual contractor to the public body or recruitment agency. The Treasury says it hopes to raise $240m for 2017/18 by bringing public sector contractors within the scope of the legislation. However, the overall number of freelancers leaving as a result of the changes is lower than previously thought, with 48 per cent jumping ship. In previous surveys more than 80 per cent had threatened to walk once the changes came into force. Half of the contractors who decided to stay managed to find a way of working outside the IR35 changes, with a further 13 per cent working within the scope of IR35 but negotiating a rate increase. The rest seemingly took the changes on the chin.
Taxes in the US are massively skewed against individuals trying to make a living in favor of huge corporate shell-game owners. There's no question it needs reform, but just guess which group Donnie Drumpf wants to give huge tax breaks to? It's not the poor coal-mining sonsofbitches who need the help, it's the bloated class.
We've seen this Reaganomics voodoo before, and it doesn't work because it was never intended to "work", it was intended to enrich the owner class further so they could extend their grasp over a duly uneducated captive electorate that doesn't care to study macroeconomics and prefers bullshit six word slogans instead.
It's not slavery if they don't realize they're putting chains on. Call it 1%er's patriotism or "business-minded" in 2017. Calling it "tax relief" is straight out of Orwell.
You assume he doesn't think that we're not all living in a slave state. He's probably wrong in a sense, but right in every other way. The government has no business stealing my hard earned money and turning me into a dependent of the state for services I could otherwise afford- like health care and schooling and so on. There is nowhere I can reasonably move to avoid this socialist hell hole entirely- but I have moved to New Hampshire to help those working on eliminating as much of the BS as possible. We've been successful in eliminating permission slips ('permits') for gun owners who wish to conceal the fact they are carrying a firearm. We've removed the authority of the banking commission in NH from having the power to regulate virtual currencies. We've decriminalized possession of marijuana. We're sort of working to end government schools, but not really, at least yet, but rather to return the money stolen from parents to parents such that they aren't deprived of the funds needed to educate their own kid(s) either via private schools or 'home schooling' (ie religious nut jobs aside there are at least kids being home schooled in NH that has nothing to do with religion and nutty far right parenting). But ultimately we'd rather end near all government programs related to welfare, schooling, military spending, policing, etc. The government's responsibility ends once all violent acts are criminalized and the country is defensible (ie attacking other countries should not be a priority over actual reasonable defensive measures, and yea, I realize the later is largely what makes up the former, but the US takes it to the absurd and invades other countries). I don't think charity is wrong and support non-government charity, non-government schooling, non-government security services (yea- some places have private security, ie Detroit has fallen so far apart because of socialism and economic collapse its now got a free market security solution because the police don't have the funds to operate in many areas), etc. And yes- I'm no republican. I f' hate the bigots and racists. I'll defend them however to whatever extent is necessary to retain freedom for everybody- even Christopher Cantwell (though he's just a scape goat than actually violent, he is a racist bigoted individual whose been in the news lately because of the Charlottesville park protests where someone got killed- which has nothing to do with this guy- and the only 'violence' was in self defence- and certainly no worse than what police routinely utilize on the general public, ie mace).
