Dawn of Solar Age Declared as PV Beats All Other Forms of Power (bloomberg.com)
Solar power blossomed faster than for any other fuel for the first time in 2016, the International Energy Agency said in a report suggesting the technology will dominate renewables in the years ahead. From a report: The institution established after the first major oil crisis in 1973 said 165 gigawatts of renewables were completed last year, which was two-thirds of the net expansion in electricity supply. Solar grew by 50 percent, with almost half new plants built in China. "What we are witnessing is the birth of a new era in solar PV," Fatih Birol, executive director of the IEA, said in a statement accompanying the report published on Wednesday in Paris. "We expect that solar PV capacity growth will be higher than any other renewable technology through 2022." This marks the sixth consecutive year that clean energy has set records for installations. Mass manufacturing and a switch by governments away from fixed payments for renewables forced down the cost of wind and solar technology. The IEA expects about 1,000 gigawatts of renewables will be installed in the next five years, a milestone that coal only accomplished after 80 years. That quantity of electricity surpasses what's consumed in China, India and Germany combined.
And...a lot of that is somewhat self inflicted, due to the culture of large swaths of black communities.
You see them quite often, glamorizing street thug lifestyle, gangsta rappers.....the other main glorified occupation is professional athlete.
Things like getting a good education, study and hard work to succeed in real life, is often looked down upon or called "trying to be white".
I've literally heard the last one there.
Blacks communities also seem to have the largest rate of single mothers raising children, why are the black husbands not staying and helping raise their kids?
I won't even go into the culture of victimhood that seems prevalent in these communities.
I won't argue with you, there has been racism in this country. I would posit that it is less today than ever in US history. I don't think most people have time to go out of their way to think "how can I undermine or hurt folks of xyz race".
I believe a large number of the problems of the black community absolutely can NOT be legislated away.
It has to be fixed from within that community.....and if they would promote positive values in education and family, as mentioned above, I think you'd see a great improvement in the quality of life of black communities and neighborhoods.

Having seen lives ruined by drugs, I'm not sure that the characterization of drug-related crimes as "victimless" is accurate, especially as one moves up the ladder of drugs. Having said that, I believe that penalties for certain crimes are out of balance than for others, and effort spent normalizing crime and punishment Would reduce minority incarceration. I'm not convinced it would reduce it to the same ratios as the general population, however.
While anyone can cherry pick cases on both sides of the pigment spectrum....
With regard to the youth, early cop interaction thing....
I don't believe that two 13 year olds, white or black, caught with one joint, are going to get that much a difference in punishment. Maybe some, if economical differences are in place, but I'm talking all things being equal, and only skin color.
Now....if you add on other circumstances.
Would one of those children be more prone in their interaction with the police to be belligerent, uncooperative and mouthy? Well, in the case of that, it has nothing to do with skin color, but geez, have some common sense around cops...don't piss them off and potentially get extra charges made (resisting, etc).
Would one of those two teens be more likely to also be carrying an illegal firearm? (I believe it is unlawful in most all of the 50 states for a minor to be in possession of a handgun).
Well, there a simple bust for a joint has now escalated for one of them waaaaay above what it could/should have been.
It is a community culture thing...and you can't really make laws or legislate that away, that has to come from family and home training.
(NOTE: I don't think having a joint should at all be illegal, but just using a simple example as may well happen today commonly)

In my experience, white people are much more likely to take an adversarial tone with police, and often get away with it.
