Elon Musk Trolls the Media With a Clip From 'Spaceballs' (twitter.com)

An anonymous reader writes Elon Musk is having fun on Twitter, where he's either promoting the new line of $20 "Boring Company" hats or trolling the media. "To preserve the transcendent majesty & specialness of The Boring Company cap, we are capping cap orders at 50,000 caps," Musk tweeted Sunday, adding "Almost there ..." Responding to a user who asked, "Is this really how you're funding the boring company??" Musk answered "Yes."

An hour later he tweeted that "Every 5000th buyer of our boringly boring hat will get a free hat signed by the delivery guy. That special hat delivery will take place deep within the real, but fictional (of course), tunnel we are building under LA while you drive the giant machine blindfolded. This will actually happen."

And then hours later, Musk shared a fresh insight into his thought process. "The *real* money comes from merchandising," he tweeted, adding "I learned it from this documentary," sharing a video titled "merchandising" which, on closer inspection, turned out to be a clip from the 1987 comedy "Spaceballs" starring Mel Brooks.
Ironically, George Lucas had only blessed Mel Brooks' parody of Star Wars with one condition: that no Space Balls action figure merchandise ever be produced.

      As someone who has worked in the auto industry including plants for 25 years, it is easy for me to see, at any rate, that a chief who is distracted by too many side projects and not giving 110% attention to getting a new assembly line up and running is going to get exactly what he is getting. But you wanted to deflect that argument. Why is that?

      You know, he's not perfect, by a long shot but, at least he wants to make a fucking difference. Because of that, or because of feelings of their own inadequacy, people are determined to tear him down every chance they get. The guys get some problems, but a least give him a chance.

      Yep, we're all waiting for the news that Musk ran off to Mexico with the savings from the SpaceX launches. Yep, any day now, all those huge savings will turn out to be a giant con.

      Cause, you know, he actually only had a couple of rockets, he just kept reusing them over and over again and billing as if it were a brand new rocket!!!!! Shameless, he even started bragging about it, and dont forget the displaced russian engines are being sold to the nk's now. Somebody better check them space signals, I bet those are being faked to keep the con going.

      Thus why he has actively chosen popular, sexy, futuristic industries instead of more mundane and more effective ones like desalination, international oceanic freight, or simply lobbying for a legal environment that rewards positive behaviors.

      There is very little to be solved in terms of improved oceanic freight, especially if you're not a large shipbuilder, and "effective desalination" is a pie in the sky. Well, a cloud in the sky - we already have efficient desalination, and it's called "evaporation and rain". Compared to this, spaceflight and smaller-scale distributed energy (including vehicles) are definitely two areas where there *can* be a lot of still-unrealized progress. So why focus on the areas where there's little to be improved and/or little impact done when the problem is solved?

      I think owners of Tesla cars are getting a little frustrated at the lack of progress on promised features. Maybe he needs to hire more people to manage/engineer things.

      Tesla is selling "full self driving" capability today, for about $3500 on top of the $5000 "enhanced auto-pilot". Self driving will be delivered at some unspecified date via software update. Enhanced auto-pilot doesn't work very well yet. There was an old version, known as AP1, which was better. Newer cars have AP2 hardware, which doesn't even have auto-wipers yet.

      This is problematic because people have expensive cars that are depreciating and running out their finance plans, with features that they paid for but which have not been delivered. And in fact, it seems like Tesla is actually going backwards because the older cars have better autopilot and working rain sensors.

    When I arrived at the Memphis International Airport, Joe was there to pick me up. Joe was a stocky, well-built, chunky steel worker who loved to drink beer and to eat. His huge gut showed it. He had a dark tan, short brown hair with a three day stubble and blue eyes; Joe was hot-looking, but his appearance never went to his head. We crawled into his beat-up pickup truck that hadn't been washed in years. His license plates read "PIT." I laughed as I threw my bag in the back of the truck.

    Slowly leaving the Memphis city limits, we began to take detours on several back roads. There was an old truck stop here, not as busy since the interstate bypassed it. Truckers still had the word out on the road that it was the mid-south's finest. Good grub and lots of it. Eat heavy.

    We stopped in the huge parking lot where several eighteen-wheelers were parked. Joe explained that we were to meet a couple of other men inside. I asked no questions. What would happen, would happen. And, knowing Joe too well, I knew that he had paid some men very well to pull off this fantasy weekend!

    Leaving his dirty truck, we walked into the restaurant area of the multi-complex truck stop. One of the waiters knew Joe by name, greeted him, and seated us. All the employees were big, burly, cigar-smoking men, obviously former truck drivers who'd loved to eat. A huge man walked to our table to take our order. He was carrying his large gut like a beach ball. I could tell he was a former body builder because his arms and chest were a mass of muscle, but his huge belly showed he finally said, "Fuck it! I'm gonna eat!" His red hair, green eyes and clean-cut round face had already gotten me aroused.

    Joe introduced him as Matt. Matt said he'd already ordered for me. I asked how he knew what I'd like to eat. He replied that it wouldn't matter... he was going to feed me everything on today's menu. Joe smiled and said, "Here we go!" I knew the fantasy had started.

    Another waiter locked the door to the grill and turned a card over on the door that said "CLOSED." Joe said that we were all to go back into the kitchen, out of view of the windows. Matt took off his shirt exposing his muscular body and huge gut. He wiped his armpits with the greasy shirt then sniffed it for his approval. He rubbed his fat gut with one hand and pointed to a wooden chair, ordering me to sit down. After seating myself, Joe tied my hands behind my back and mumbled that he hoped that I hadn't eaten yet.

    Matt pulled up a small table beside me. It was covered with food. I mean covered! As he seated himself just a foot or two away from me he picked up a large cooking spoon and ordered, "EAT!"

    He first started feeding me chicken and dumplings with a sip of beer every now and then. He explained he liked his boys fat and that he was going to force-feed me and stretch my stomach. If I puked I would have to eat it. Soon, my jaws tired from constant chewing. I started just swallowing gobs of food whole. My stomach started aching as I tried to belch between bites. Matt rubbed my belly and chuckled as he took out his big, thick, uncut cock, stroking it with one hand and feeding me with his other. Joe reached from behind me and started pinching my tits.

    I was stuffed and I couldn't hold any more. Joe suggested that I breathe deeply and eat more because there was a man that I would meet later that wanted all the food that I had just eaten and wanted to give me a six-gallon soapy-water enema followed by a wine enema. I moaned as Matt shoved huge biscuits and gravy down my throat. As the gravy dripped down my chin onto my crotch, Matt poured some gravy onto his tool, grabbed the back of my head and forced me down on his meat. I sucked and slurped on that hot gravy over his hot sausage. Mat ordered me to eat the cheese from his cock as Joe started ripping off sections of my badly faded jeans.     Because the Spaceballs "merchandising" scene always had a ring of truth to it. It's not hard to see how much toy sales drove many of these franchises. From pretty much anything Disney, to Star Wars, to Transformers.

    A while back, Elon tweeted something about having a quiet evening with some wine and ambien. Fortunately, Elon is wealthy enough that someone else is probably driving if he has to go anywhere under this mix. Elon has also commented that he could be bipolar.

    So, sometimes one wonders if Elon is just toying with us, or if he's high.

    I think there's one very good thing about this recent spate of announcements and the self-designations that some of them are fake. There was a certain class of young Elon Musk fan (I'm looking at you, Reddit /r/spacex) who didn't believe that Elon Musk lied. No, I'm not kidding. I just figure that all corporate executives lie and that it's part of the job, but not those young fans. But now, Elon seems to be putting out enough consciously conflicting messages that some of them will turn out to be lies, and the fan base can adjust its adoration accordingly.

    I do think he's done a whole lot of great things. And I think you need someone like him to do them.

      Is it even legal to run the route autonomously? Also Musk didn't actually say end of this year, he said end of the year... Maybe he meant the year period the started the day he said it. I mean he has been busy with the whole battery in 100 days, which is all funny the way people are trying to find ways to start the period before he even said it so they can say he didn't deliver on time. But we don't know how close they are to having a freeway-capable system, maybe they're already on 'release candidate 50' or something.
