Microsoft Readies Windows 10 April Update With New Features and Enhancements (hothardware.com)

MojoKid writes: Microsoft has been preparing a Spring Creators Update for Windows 10 for a while now, which was recently pushed out as an RTM (Release To Manufacturing) build to all rings of the Windows Insider program. Now dubbed the "Windows 10 April Update," Redmond is billing that "lots of new features" are rolling out with this release, including the ability to resume past activities in timeline and a file sharing feature with nearby devices. Also, based on what has been tested in pre-release builds, there will be other features coming as well, including a rebuilt Game Bar with a new Fluent design UI, a diagnostic data viewing tool in the Security and Privacy section, and Cortana is reportedly easier to use with a new Organizer interface and My Skills tab. It is expected Microsoft will be pushing out this update for Windows 10 this week sometime.

So, it was decided that regular File Saves and Opens would always be to an Application's Files Directory. In fact, there was even an API that allowed Applications to basically obviate "manual" Saves and Opens (particularly Saves), by doing them automagically. Keep in mind that this same set of changes also brought an API and Filesystem commands that provided file Versioning, which is u doubted lay a Good Thing.

But the use of the Option key is totally consistent in the Mac OS Ehos, all the way back to 1984, in fact. The "Option" key (more correctly described as a "More Options" key), has ALWAYS been used, admittedly in a somewhat inconsistent way, to access "Advanced Options" for whatever the User is doing. So, in that fashion, showing additional File Formats and File Locations is actually TOTALLY consistent with the Mac UI and software design philosophies, going ALL the way back.

And as for MacRumors, it is just as rife with Mac Hating Trolls, who freely make up "personal experiences" out of whole cloth, having never touched a Mac in their entire lives, as is Slashdot. Don't use that forum as a benchmark, please!

What really killed me, is Windows runs Antimalware Service Executable and also Search Indexer while swapping!
This explains the mechanical HDD being hammered constantly, and me waiting 5 minutes to switch to a tab. (Or 20 minutes grinding before I kill a browser process or let it crash)

This is a brand new laptop, hence the 4GB RAM, but with a super fast 2C/4T Intel CPU that clocks high when it's hammered by a CPU process. If RAM is used up it's like that time you used Vista on someone's brand new PC :)

But with admin rights to disable indexing etc., spybot antibeacon, and twice the RAM you thought you needed it might work fine.
I would worry about the 11.6" netbooks with soldered RAM and the cheapo tablets. Must be again some powerful hardware that people with Stockholm syndrome use, thinking it's their fault if it locks up because they have to do one thing at a time.
If they made an Atom netbook with 8GB soldered RAM it would be worth using! ... not really, since I would then run out, from having the freedom offered by that headroom, so really a quad core Atom with 16GB RAM would be nice.
