Wages Aren't the Only Reason Teachers Are Striking (axios.com)
An anonymous reader shares a report: Schools in 39 of 50 states have seen decreases in funding for instructional materials for their students, according to data from the Urban Institute. These conditions have sparked a wave of teacher activism across the country. Educators have had to pay for supplies themselves to provide new materials for students at times. Teachers' salaries aren't enough to pay for materials, either. In some cases they have to pay for materials for dozens of children. Teachers are having to teach students with materials that are defective, outdated and inefficient because of a lack of funding going to state education budgets -- particularly in Republican states.
Conservatives don't seem to mind inequality. It increases competition in their mind and in theory raises all boats. Most don't seem ready to give that up and are essentially Ayn Randians to the bitter end.
Further, they fear "socialism" makes for a big government, and big government as a whole will allegedly grow power to curb their religion, take away their guns, and let men use the women's bathroom. Growing one arm of gov't will allegedly increase the power of another.
They'd rather risk starvation and illness than risk such an "attack" on their way of life. Paranoid? Yes, but many humans are like that. The Taliban are not the only ones. I have relatives like that who I know well. I love them, but they are also stubborn shitheads.

The article you link to commits so many logical errors that it's hard to know where to start. But let's focus on this one:
That's absolutely false. Single mothers overwhelmingly vote Democratic, while married women and men favor Republicans. Democrats have spent half a century destroying the two parent family and created a government-dependent underclass, but those people are still in the minority. Democrats have managed to do that by taking over the inner cities and by preaching an ideology based on victimhood, helplessness, and racial divisions.
The large Republican vote in recent years is a reaction to this: people are rightfully scared that the destructive policies of Democrats will turn the entire country into the wastelands Democrats have created in inner cities and the South.
