Defying Skeptics, Twitter Stock Surges 60% in 2018 (cnn.com)

Twitter is one of the hottest stocks on Wall Street this year -- and now the company is hoping to cash in by selling $1 billion of bonds that can eventually convert into Twitter stock... Twitter's stock is up more than 60% this year, and prior to Thursday's drop, Twitter shares had been on a 10-day winning streak. Why are investors flocking to Twitter? It looks like Twitter's strategy to embrace live video is a hit with users and advertisers. Twitter reported an actual profit for the past two quarters and user growth has accelerated.
That's why Twitter's stock has easily outperformed top rival Facebook, which is up 6% in 2018, and it's trouncing struggling Snap Inc. The parent company of Snapchat is still down 15% this year, despite a 10% surge in the past week. Twitter was also just added to the S&P 500, which proves that the little blue bird is now a blue chip American firm that is finally starting to grow up.

Yep, nearly every day the headlines on the front page of major media say "Trump tweets ..." whatever. Yesterday the top story was he tweeted that he was looking forward the unemployment numbers coming out, which he did two hours before they were officially realised.
Being in the headlines daily has to be very good to Twitter.

The economy is excellent. Black unemployment is at an all time low. There are more jobs than applicants to fill them.

Stock prices just don't reflect reality. Yeah, the stock market is a really a futures market, but the valuations of many companies don't reflect what's actually possible. Companies can only grow so much. Their market is only so big, competitors enter the market, but yet, many companies are valued as if they will grow in perpetuity.
I can see why many are turned off to the equity markets. Any rational person would be wary.

One other reason for the popularity is their commitment to ban Nazis and other toxic undesirables. It's popular because rational people recognize it as a Good Thing - shove 'em to the margins, and they will become irrelevant. This is a good stock to short (along with TSLA). The younger generation doesn't use Twitter and the stock price doesn't reflect reality. Twitter has been a terrible 5 year investment.
He's under investigation for treason and just about everything else we know he's guilty of already, AS HE COMPLAINS ABOUT LEAKS CONSTANTLY. So yes, the fact that he leaked this info is pertinent to his demise in prison.

I think Twitter has gotten better (and more profitable) since they allowed 280 characters per tweet. For one thing, I don't have to figure out contractions, abbreviations and other "Internet shorthand" like it was in the past for the most part.
Is this true or just something Twitter wants you to believe? I have contracts with major corporations world wide and a huge percentage of them do NOT or no longer use Twitter, staff included. This is thousands and thousands of people. With that everyone I know does not or no longer uses Twitter. This makes me wonder is Twitter faking this news because they in reality are failing? I assume with President Trump using Twitter extensively that could make this "fake" news more plausible. Food for thought, not the first time a company has lied to help themselves.
