Microsoft and National Geographic Team Up on AI Research Grant (engadget.com)

Microsoft and National Geographic are partnering on a new grant program that will put $1 million towards projects using AI to address environmental challenges. From a report: Between five and 15 projects will be selected as recipients of the AI for Earth Innovation Grant program and winning researchers will receive funding, access to Microsoft cloud and AI tools, inclusion in the National Geographic Explorer Community and affiliation with National Geographic Labs. "Microsoft is constantly exploring the boundaries of what technology can do, and what it can do for people and the world," Lucas Joppa, chief environmental scientist at Microsoft, said in a statement. "We believe that humans and computers, working together through AI, can change the way that society monitors, models and manages Earth's natural systems." In a similar vein, Google just announced a partnership with UN Environment that will provide real-time data to organizations and governments about the impact of human activity on ecosystems.

And I have complete confidence in our intelligence community and the findings that they have announced.” He did not answer questions after his statement at the U.S. Capitol, according to The New York Times.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) urged America to be “clear” and label Russia a “foe” following the roughly 40-minute press conference.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) skewered Trump for failing “to defend all that makes us who we are” as Americans.

“No prior president has ever abased himself more abjectly before a tyrant,” McCain said in a statement. “Not only did President Trump fail to speak the truth about an adversary; but speaking for America to the world, our president failed to defend all that makes us who we are—a republic of free people dedicated to the cause of liberty at home and abroad.”

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) dubbed Trump’s decision to hold both countries responsible for poor U.S.-Russia relations as “bizarre” and “flat-out wrong.”

“The United States is not to blame,” he said in a statement. “America wants a good relationship with the Russian people but Vladimir Putin and his thugs are responsible for Soviet-style aggression. When the President plays these moral equivalence games, he gives Putin a propaganda win he desperately needs.”

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on Monday defended the intelligence community against Trump’s attempts to once again undermine its credibility by refusing to blame Russia for election meddling.

“From the President on down, we must do everything in our power to protect our democracy by securing future election from foreign interference, regardless of what Vladimir Putin or any other Russian operative says,” Hatch said in a statement.

And what does he do when Putin says NO? Is Trump going to call Putin a bald faced liar and give Putin a sharp smack to the mouth? Does anyone living on this side of our galaxy think Putin is going to divulge all his sins and fall on his knees asking for forgiveness?
The meeting ended without Trump agreeing to any thing. All the sanctions are in place for the Ukraine matter. The US is still providing offensive weapon systems to the Ukraine. None of the Russian diplomats expelled from the US have been invited back. The Russian real estate confiscated by the US has not been returned. There is still a formidable US military presence in Syria more than capable of making sure the Russians and their allies are forced to give concessions to the US if they really want that clusterfuck of a war come to an end anytime in the next 20 years. The US is going to stay in Syria until Russia sends the Iranians packing or until Israel finishes destroying the Iranian presence. And how fast do you think Russia would hand over Snowden if it meant getting some US concessions on any of the matters currently causing friction between the two countries?

And while Trump can lie and obfuscate just like all politicians he is correct when he says all of Russia's election interference was carried out during the Obama administration and Obama knew 8 months before the election and did nothing.

Although I imagine he was 100% sure Clinton would win the election and all the collected intelligence concerning Russian election interference could be downgraded and forgotten. There sure as hell would have been no Russian investigation. Facebook and all the other social media peddlers would have continued on without any visits to Congress to explain how the Russians became one of their biggest purchasers of ad space.

And if you look at the election timeline you would see the Russian election interference projects were running full steam way before Trump won the Republican nomination.

Those criticizing Trump's meeting are the same one's who complained about the NK meeting. Their objections leave only one course of action open for the President to pursue. Continue first strike preparations against NK and go all in on another Cold War with Russia. Unless Putin offers a public apology for Russia's various actions around the world and NK invites in the US Army Corp of Engineers to directly oversee the dismantling of NK's nuclear weapons then there is no other option besides open war with NK and a covert war against the Russians.
