'Almost All' Pakistani Banks Hacked In Security Breach, Report Says (dawn.com)
The cybercrime wing of Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency has said data from "almost all" Pakistani banks was stolen in a recent security breach. FIA Cybercrimes Director retired Capt Mohammad Shoaib told Geo News that hackers based outside the country had breached the security systems of several local banks. "The hackers have stolen large amounts of money from people's accounts," he added. From a report: He said the FIA has written to all banks, and a meeting of the banks' heads and security managements is being called. The meeting will look into ways the security infrastructure of banks can be bolstered. "Banks are the custodians of the money people have stored in them," Shoaib said. "They are also responsible if their security features are so weak that they result in pilferage." It wasn't immediately clear when exactly the security breach took place. According to Shoaib, more than 100 cases are being investigated by the agency in connection with the breach.
According to officials, a large percentage of deposits was stolen. Total amount stolen is estimated to be approximately $130.
But, then again, Pakistan asked for it.

On the other hand, all the banks of Pakistan are breached and money got stolen, and no one in the street notices it because they never use the banks anyway, everything is done on cash.

Politicians in Pakistan were upset when they learned their ill-gotten booty had been stolen by criminals they didn't control and hence have no way to get their booty back. Further consternation resulted when they realized they couldn't blame those nice Chinese that are stealing the part of the country the pols haven't yet gotten to. Also, they cannot blame those nice Norks ever since those tea parties where infrastructure investment, cultural exchanges, and nuclear weapons technology transfers were discussed.
In a statement to be released in the coming days, blame will be placed upon those naughty Indians who simply cannot abide a Muslim Pakistan....of course, most Indians don't give a flying rat's ass about Pakistan but responsibility for that will be alleged to be due to the scarcity of flying rats' asses.

Either these people don't know how to run a bank, or these are nation level actors. You can't digitally order all the money away in a normal bank system. This just sounds like a high level excuse to get away with robbery, and make some news. Hackers, that's hip, people will buy that right? Banks use quantum key encryption for each large transfer, and those are limited by physical distance, and separated physically from regular networks. Then there are actual people whose job it is to watch transactions, transfer you to security if let's say your IP changes erratically. If somebody makes a purchase in a different state, banks will put a hold on all activity. Banks watch their customers like hawks. I can understand attacking ATMs, they actually have cash in them, but this sounds like a whole lot of hooey. Then again maybe I'm reading the article wrong, what does "Pakistani banks was stolen" mean anyway? Someone stole the entire bank building Robin Hood Men in Tights style?
