Spotify Will Soon Let You Mute, Block Artists (theverge.com)
Spotify, one of the largest music streaming platforms available, is readying a "don't play this artist" feature in its apps that will let you mute artists you don't want to hear from. "The feature simply lets you block an entire artist from playing, so that songs from the artist will never play from a library, playlist, chart list, or even radio stations on Spotify," reports The Verge. From the report: The block feature works on songs by an individual artist, but it doesn't currently apply to tracks that an artist is featured on. Thurrott first spotted the feature, and notes that Spotify originally decided not to offer blocking "after serious consideration" back in 2017. Spotify has now reversed that decision.
I never want to be suggested a Linus Tech Tips video ever again
That R Kelly will assault your ears. Womyns needs safe music yo
Searching for Michael Jackson in Spotify and being redirected to Drake for marketing reasons alone, is the problem with Spotify.
Let users search for who they want to listen to and stop forcing them to listen to unrelated artists,.
DENIED
Don't even know why she pops up, *shudder*
I'll block everything except for "These Boots are Made for Walking" and have it on infinite repeat!
I like the fact DJ Khalid says his name at the beginning of hi tracks. It's a reminder for me to skip the track.
But now I can add him to my block list - saving me seconds of my day.
press a button, and it reverses all the blocked artists.
specify which artist you want to listen to, and it blocks all the others.
this won't last long, as they will watch for it.
You got to be niggardly with the niggar music
Does it come with a default Nickleback setting?
That is all.
If they'd change from Individual artists to a category, say Hip-Hop or Rap, or Religious, I'd pay full price. Being able to mute individual songs would be nice, too just because I like a musician doesn't mean I like ALL they do.
If the universe is someone's simulation -- does that mean the stars are just stuck pixels?
Yes. I've muted then deleted Spotify completely.
Would definitely like block genre. I fucking hate Country Music and some other varieties. That said on things like my daily list, I can already select "block artist" as one of my options when I block a song. Have been able to for months. Haven't been using it long. Switched to it when it was announced XM was buying Pandora.

You should try Western then!
Cost free eBook I read (by iBook/Kobo/Amazon/ObookO/Gutenberg etc.): "The Green Odyssey" by Philip Jose Farmer.
Pandora could really use this feature as well.
If you did that, your playlist would consist of Classical music, and traditional Asian and Indian music. There's nothing in any remotely contemporary genre which isn't at least influenced by "black music." You can kiss your Elvis goodbye.
"You can't stop us singing about drive-bys, drug deals, bitches & hos, and the thug life! It's the authentic voice of the urban black street! ... ...Huh. How come Whitey views every black youth with suspicion and assumes the worst? Whitey is SO racist!"

Fuck Elvis. So we would be left with Classical Music? I don't see a problem with this. I could turn on the radio and not hear some half intelligent porch monkey yammering about his 'hoes' and 'benjamans' I'm good with that.

I actually enjoyed the tax day rap songs about filing other peoples returns and pocketing the proceeds. Happy MLK day bitches.
There is a lot of music out there, unfortunately, most of it is just plain bad. I honestly don't want to listen to a bunch of crap to maybe hear one decent song. With few exceptions ( a few you tube music videos) I mostly listen to stuff from http://www.opengameart.org/ because not only is it all freely licensed, it sounds better. But even that can't compare to the music I composed for my game, Wograld You can get all the music right with the game client. I actually listen to the Wograld music when I work out. https://sourceforge.net/p/wogr... I wish sorting by genre worked, but it doesn't because bad is bad, and a decent song, regardless of genre is still good.
Spotify doesn't let you make stations based on genres or tags? I remember last.fm and Pandora having features to that end, 10+ years ago. They also both had a "ban track" button. Seems like basic stuff, especially when you're asking for payment. If all it lets me do is pick individual songs to play and make them into playlists - I can already do that very well without paying anyone a monthly subscription.
You can make a station based on a song in Spotify. I never do it, but the the option is there. It also makes a station based on your recent listening that you can optionally use.

November of 2012 we have been trying to get these fools to allow us to change an accidental (or otherwise) thumbs up or thumbs down to the opposite, or simply remove either choice, and they still haven't implemented such a basic feature. It's ridiculous. And it's things like this that will continue to ensure they never get any money from me.

The world will be a better place without you.
I was originally paying to not have ads and that worked well for a number of years. Then all of a sudden they started shoving their artists and playlists down my throat while at the same time making it harder for me to get into my own playlists. So I stuck on an ad blocker and user youtube instead now. I'm saving £9.99 a month.
I haven't subscribed in a while, but Slacker Radio had ban artist, ban song, create a station from a song, curated genre stations... I'm surprised that the more popular Spotify lacks these features.
Finally a kill switch for Bono.
I wonder if they will ever add the "don't play this song ever again" feature to the browser version.
Goodby U2 and Foo Fighters. No more generic songs from you 2.
Or any other streaming music service, for that matter...
You can't link tracks that were meant to be played together, so multi-track works sound absolutely horrible when part of a playlist on shuffle mode, or played as part of a radio station.
Take Pink Floyd, for instance... If you wanted Another Brick in the Wall to be a part of your playlist, someone decided to slice that into three separate tracks on the album. There's a lot of good music out there that's affected by this problem.
Its a start but spotify could improve music 100% if it just had one check box, "block all porch monkey noise." Of course it would be labeled something different. Cross out porch monkey and replace it with a word that starts with a 'n' and means the same thing.
A "de-niggarfication" button.
