Applixware for LinuxPPC

Plutor writes "Applix has ported their office suite to LinuxPPC, and CNN has an article about it. It's always a nice thing to see main-stream press attention-I'd like my next box to be PPC. "

Linux for Intel/PPC/Alpha, HP-UX, Solaris (Sparc?), Java VM, Windows... what else? It would seem that Applix is truly crossplatform. Why haven't I heard about them until fairly recently?

Perhaps they should be advertising this for mixed OS environments. I would like to see a MacOS port though to cover the last 1-10% of the market.

StarOffice is good too. It may take up more memory than others but it is so like MSOffice that fleeing MSOffice users will find it comfortable and familiar.

NetWinder, can leave it on all day and not worry about power consumption; doesn't take up much room. x86 for cheap horsepower, although I'd be willing to settle for a second netwinder. They're surprisingly zippy.

Now that ApplixWarePPC is out, many LinuxPPC users can be productive without having to reboot into MacOS. This can only be a good thing. Soon, as more and more Productivity software becomes availible for either/any platform, it'll be harder to spread FUD agaisnt linux being say..."counterproductive" or "unsupported" (if enough applications are supported, then it doesn't matter if the OS is..) or any stupid FUD like "opaque".
