Slashdot Mirror

Microscopic, natural art.

jackcp writes "This is a site that has all kinds of pictures taken by scanning electron microscopes. Beautiful pictures, at that." Obviously the images have been doctored by photoshop or something, but they are quite nice. I love seeing artists finding new sources for their work, and some of those images are quite stunning. I really wish they had higher resolution versions though- the best art is better when it becomes my background image *grin*.

Rob, you should probably start keeping your editorials to yourself. The one about not reading books anymore and only reading web pages also ranks up there as one of your worst.

Am I totally wrong to assume that this is based on the same idea as those magic eye pictures?

there's an artist i read about in ArtByte named Giles Revell. he scans specimens in with an electron microscope from different angles and then composites the images to give them a depth and dimension. quite impressive.

Something always struck me as odd about people who find things (i.e. they don't create it) and call it art.

DJs do the mixing. DJs do the scratching. DJs do whatever else it is they do (I know, some of my friends are DJs). The final piece of work _is_ something they've created.

Compare this to the microscope guy. He grabs an image off a SEM and calls it art.
