Linux Expo Finalizes List of Keynote Speakers
John Paul, the former Netscape server SVP and general manager, will be heading up the new America Online Netscape browser project. "As head of Netscape's Server product division, John Paul has been actively involved in the most significant changes affecting the Internet and enterprise software markets over the last four years," commented Red Hat Software's Bob Young. "From this vantage point he is in a unique position to recognize the importance of Linux and the open source movement to the future of the computing industry."
With the addition of John Paul, the fifth annual Linux Expo Keynotes add another level of prestige to an already distinguished list of technical and business speakers. The conference is highlighted by industry experts sharing their Linux knowledge from the latest in kernel developments to open source enterprise solutions. In addition to a fabulous list of technical and business speakers, Linux Expo will also have some informal Birds of a Feather sessions for experts and new users alike, as well as, work-in-progress sessions showing some new and innovative roads Linux is taking. New this year, an ExtremeLinux Track introducing topics such as cluster creation and kernel programming like filesystems.
This year's Linux Expo is shaping up to be a can't-miss event. Visit the record number of Expo exhibitors showing the latest in Linux-based hardware, software, and service solutions. Join great companies like: IBM, Red Hat Software, SuSE, VA Research, Silicon Graphics, Hewlett Packard, BEA Systems, Linux Hardware Solutions, Caldera, Ki Networks, Magic Software, plus many more! In addition to the hardware, software, component and applications vendors, the Linux Expo will also keep with tradition and have the annual email garden, third annual Linux Bowl, paint ball, and other great activities for Linux gurus from across the globe.

Sigh, what is wrong with you people.
Those speakers are on behalf of commercial vendors, not LINUX.
And saying that This conference is nothing without Linus is just stupid, the SAD fact of the whole matter is that Linus torvalds hasnt done very much in the Linux kernel over the last few years except from maybe accepting new code.
This conference is lame because the ppl that really DO linux are not in the spotlight.
it sux, and so do all that approve of it. Linux is getting to be too much about the $$$ and not what he used to stand for, where a developer could develope free software for others and himself, for commercial or whatever use he / she desire.
And also I am sad to this happen to linux after all these years which I have been involved in it.
I went to the Linux Expo last year in Durham and
had a really great time. I think it cost about
$7.00 to get in, maybe $10. This year as a student
it is going to cost me $20.00 to get in just to
see the exhibits. That is rediculous.
Here is this year's pricelist:
Tutorial Day (Wed):
Regular: $300
Student: $150
Conference (3 Days):
Regular: $250
Student: $125
Conference (2 Days):
Regular: $175
Student: $85
Conference (1 Day):
Regular $100
Student $45
ExtremeLinux Track (SA):
Student/Non-student $35
Exhibits Only: $20
Is Linus not going to be there?
Disappointment galore! If I am going to drive
10 hours to go to a Linux show, I am going to be
mad as hell if I dont see Linus there.
Last post! Last post!
I win! I win! Hooray for me!
I am the coolest!

He showed up last year when I wasn't there, and now, when I have a chance to go...
I realize Linus is a busy man, but really, are you going to compare any other possible keynote speaker to him?
-W.W.
It was my impression that VA had opted out of exhibiting at LinuxExpo, but that VA techs would be on hand for all of the VA machines that will be in other peoples' booths.
This was in some way related to Red Hat's attempts to dilute the "platinum sponsorship" so that it wouldn't consist of Linux companies exclusively.
