Resource for Identifying Catchy Commercial Tunes

mr2 asks: "Is there a resource out there that collects information on those catchy tunes for the newer commercials. For example, I'd love to know who the artist is for the new Pentium III commercial with the monkey. The Crystal Method (VW I think) and The Orb (VW Bug) are two examples of this. MozillaZine has a nice idea on this, but it's not updated as frequently as I would like (last update 2/15). Slashdot would be a cool place for this. Music to /. by!" You know, I've always wondered who did the music to that cool Volkswagon commercial where everything happens on time with the music. So if something like this does exist, I know I'll be using it!

FYI: the commercial with everything in time to the music uses "Jung at Heart" by Master Cylinder.

It has lots of recent commercials (including the VW and Intel ones), with the names of the songs and artists as well as quicktimes of the actual commercials.

When they started up the latest of the BMW commercials, I really liked the music they were using. I tried sending some mail to them to ask who did the music for their commmercials, but they never replied.

The Melody Index (MELDEX) from is designed to do just that. You sing a few bars and in theory it will come up with the song. I doubt that it will be too successful, as anyone who's ever had a friend who just had to sing that new techno song to you knows. Still, pretty interesting stuff. Why can't I moderate something "Wrong" or at least "Grossly Misinformed"?

I found that VW posted all the info about the Bug commercials when the first came out. I haven't checked in a while, but I would assume that they still do it. I've been trying to find the artist who did the music behind Intel's "Monkey" P3 ad. Cool Brazilian stuff.
