The US carriers make no additional money by competing with anyone outside of the US.
And did the report take into consideration that many people opt for the cheapest broadband available? The cheapest might not qualify as 4/1, or the "minimum" to be considered broadband. Which is just fine in that case. The consumer is getting exactly what he/she paid for.
RH brought the linux desktop to the masses. it was roundly criticized for it being too newbie friendly. PEOPLE WONT LEARN LINUX! they all said. Later, the same allegations were leveled at mandrake(iva) and Lindows/spire. IT HURTS LINUX MORE THAN IT HELPS they all cried. Well now that ubuntu is taking the desktop maturity to new levels of easeness, its now completely acceptable, and welcomed by all. Ease of use is in.
The ubuntu cheerleaders, which is allegedly now ~30% of all linux desktop users, defend their darling distro till death. I would wager that many of these same people are the very same people who publicly smacked RH around, mocking those who used it.
My question is, where are those people now?
I grew up on RH, and use Fedora today. I was one of those who, back in the day, would get lol'd at in efnets #linux channels when I asked for help. Perhaps I am the kid who got virtually beat up too many times in my linux childhood, but it seems to me the hypocrisy level is in overdrive in regards to ubuntu.
These guys are going to analtate themselves into oblivion. I know this is flamebait, but who takes a distro seriously with such jems such as;
1: "...the Debian Security Team may come to a point where supporting Mozilla products is no longer feasible and announce the end of security support for Mozilla products."
2: "register_globals... is now finally deprecated on Debian systems"
lol?
It takes a skilled, yet very short bussed person to have any thing to do with such garbage.
98% of all webhosting/VM companies and millions upon millions of corporate users I would declare as > 0
I'm personally anxious for this release. I loved RHEL 4's stability, but it was showing its age. 2 years in linux years is like, 10 dog years, which is like 120 people years.
Would be nice if _all_ the third party repos would get their act together so one never has to worry about using repo A and B, but not A and C, except if you have D and A enabled, then its ok.
The third party repos are awesome, but a double edged dependency nightmare.
I'm excited about this announcement. However, how many other "NASA Initiatives" have been announced, and due to funding, have never materialized? How many times by how many different presidents has used space exploration purely for political gains with no intention whatsoever to follow through?
Like the OP said, I'll believe it when I start seeing it built. If they really do it, I'll still be alive and senile enough to appreciate the monumental and technical achievements not seen since (then) 55-60 years ago.
I've tried the last 3 releases, and its no better and in some cases substantially worse, than Fedora. I cant speak for the others as I've not tried them.
Mark me as flamebait, thats fine. Just my personal experience. Ubuntu isnt the second coming as some would lead you to believe.
I installed it, never ever having used.rss stuff before.
Took me 15 minutes to figure out how to add youtube channels, and once I did, I get a whopping 15 videos per channel. Now because I probably dont know what I'm doing, I cant yet poo all over this, but why would I want to be limited by this? Why not just go to youtube.com and freely click around? Why bother with this program at all?
It seems to be a solution without a problem tbh.

You clearly have no idea how much RedHat has contributed to linux over the years.
As a buyer, low bids for equally good work is better. I've used RAC several times, and the only problem I've ever encountered are translation issues, where I have a hard time explaining exactly what I want done.
I'm planning on using RAC for a $500-1000 project in the coming months, and I'm reasonably sure I'll get "stuck" using a foreign coder. But if going back and forth over some details to make sure we are on the same page is the worth 50% off the price of an American coder, I'll take that deal every time.
I just checked, and everything you just mentioned is still a part of the constitution, and therefore I havent lost those rights. Nope. You need better examples.
approve of these charges.

One day when I figure out how to +5 someone, ill +5 posts such as this.
Good point.

One that conveys truth, honesty, and deep convictions: "Mars Needs More Women."
they can virtualize XP under linux, can have hardware graphics acceleration, and full dx9+ support.

I agree. Dont mix repositories. Until you have to. Then it breaks.
Loyal fedora/rh user for years and years.
Try adding several third party repos (livna, atrpms, freshrpms, etc) and updating. Problems will soon arise, and it gets ugly.

I dont understand the Ubuntu hype, personally.

So, drawing conclusions from your logic, NO white collar/non-violent criminals should be imprisoned?
Who's the one not thinking again?
"crap" from an expert coders perspective maybe. But as long as it does everything the project outlines and the buyer is happy, its win-win.

People who run a linux desktop, likely dont use debian anyway. The few (thousand?) who DO, prefer lynx.
I just checked, and everything you just mentioned is still a part of the constitution, and therefore I havent lost those rights. Nope. You need better examples.
Which rights did I lose again?
I cant think of a single one.
Care to remind me/us what rights and freedoms have been taken away from us unconstitutionally, and or/illegally?
I guess this means that if we buy a google car, we get free gas as long as we take a route that passes by advertisers stores?
