That investment requires taxes, and EVERYONE benefits from those taxes, and the taxes prior generations paid.

During WWII, the tip marginal tax rate was 92%. On top of that, men by the millions were asked to wage war for this country, with the very real possibility that they were being asked to make the ultimate sacrifice for this country.

This is the big lie that conservatives have been using for decades, and can be seen most everywhere: misinformation, and a gullible, ignorant, uneducated sheep-like following of mental midgets.

Here's some reading for you. Your assertion of the "only" thing about economics from Jesus is basically bullshit; Jesus' narratives are filled with social and communal scribing. http://valentinelogar.hubpages.com/hub/Jesus-was-a-Socialist

    But here's one even better:

Acts 4:32-37 - 32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. 36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, 37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

    Or maybe this one:

Acts 2: 44, 45 - 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things in common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

I think you wanted to respond to MichaelSmith. I was responding to your question on whether it would simple explode in the atmosphere or not. I think it was Dyson that first suggested that not terribly large object entering the atmosphere at a very high rate of speed could actually impact the oceans floor without even touching water due to bowshock. (my caveat: it's been over 35 years since i read much on the subject, and my memory is not remotely close to what it was then. It may have been someone else's writings that were published at that time, and somehow got attributed to Dyson in my grey matter.)

As for your point: yes, volume increases isn't linear with size, and volume decrease would necessitate a significant increase in velocity to compensate. There's a lot of variables to take into account other than simply size and speed in the overall picture, though. Actual damage would also change depending on the terrain, height of the air burst, and impact or air burst. I think MichealSmith's point isn't a strict comparison of exactly the same amount of energy released, but more along the lines of "it doesn't have to be big size wise to cause a lot of damage."

This one in Russia would have caused significantly more damage had the burst been lower in the atmosphere, or in a more populated area, where one larger than this would have caused little to no damage somewhere out in the middle of the ocean.

While you have your local experience, here's mine: My brother, who has a small umber of hives, and does sell his honey one jar at a time (as opposed to when he was younger selling by the barrel to regional honey distributors), sells his lower than the area's stores do... not by a lot.... but lower, and it is definitely better honey. Additionally, other people he knows in the small end business sell roughly at the same price, and that price is lower than the 60lbs bucket rate at those regional honey distributors.

My suggestion is: find a different local beekeeper, and compare prices, or hell, even eBay if your local deal is charging twice the grocery store price. You'd get a better deal even with the postage, as twice grocery store prices is pretty obscene.... and pretty hard to believe.

Yes, and no. If we can track these things, we may have years, or even centuries, of data to pinpoint where they're going to hit. If we happen to find something that's not going to hit us in 48 hours, that doesn't mean we're simply going to ignore it... we're going to remember it, and the more we learn about it, the more we'll have an idea if it's going to hit in the future, and where.

On the other side of that is, most of these objects won't need an evacuation. The one that came in over Russia didn't, but, the vast majority of those injuries could have been avoided if people would have known something was coming, and to stay away from their windows around a certain time of the day just to be safe. In that sense, those 12 hours of warning would have eliminated 95% or more of the injuries this one caused.

At very high rates of speed, which 100km/sec would be a flat out damn fast as the normal/average speed is more in the line of 12-20km/sec, it would be possible for it to simply punch a hole through the atmosphere without ever ablating anything.... think of it as a bow shock, if you will. There's a number of variables though... composition (iron a better choice than stony), and entry angle (steep entry more likely), but it's possible. That would definitely make a dent in anything it landed on.

The trouble is, we have a large contingency of elected people who have been intentionally trying to subvert the proper functioning of government for 30 years, and this is just one more way they are trying to do it. No company funds 75 years worth of retirement payments ahead, and for conservative fucktards in congress to pass legislation to force the post office to do so is nothing more than an intentional attempt to destroy USPS' ability to function.

At the same time, congress has refused to allow USPS to offer services that could generate more income because some of the truly fucking idiotic congress people are on this ideological bullshit meme of "privatization." Privatization always costs more money, because you add an additional layer of cost into the mix... called profit. Here's the rub: UPS and FedEx do not want to take over USPS' mail routes. It would be far too costly for them, and many times those services use USPS resources to move their packages anyway.

Just think - if, at the start of the year, you were earning $300 a day (no tax), but by the end of the year you were earning only $150 for the same amount of work, wouldn't you be tempted to just call it quits and take a holiday?

That's not a valid argument though. For that to be true, their marginal rate would have to be well in excess of 50%, and the person would have to be paying the full rate with no deductions. Top marginal rate is currently 39.6%, and anyone in that bracket (400K+) is going to have deductions decreasing their real tax liability.

The dentist (and his wife) in question were complaining that because they would break that barrier, they'd loose lots of extra money, clearly believing that that 39.6% would be applied to all of their income, not just the additional amount over 400K. When corrected, they had nothing more to say about it. So the valid argument for their position would have been the difference between making $300 and making only $286. That's the increase they were kvetching about in reality. The problem was, they didn't have a clue how the tax code actually works, which should be obvious to anyone who actually looks at it.... which certainly should be anyone who's going to participate in an anti-tax interview.
