If you recall, that was the model that VMware originally used as well (the VM/CMS model). But, essentially, yes, you are right. I'm wondering why they went with the single threaded process, and would like more information from them outside what is in the slide deck..
how about a electro-shocking anti ad mouse

Yes we need to address malicious ads, but short and sweet, they are there to generate revenue of sorts for legitimate business. SO, teach the user to not click on the pretty ad the comes up, and why, poof, problem solved?
Maybe build a program that sends a signal to a special anti ad clicking mouse, every time you click, it shocks your poor little hand, until you stay away from those mean ol ads.
Heh, no, that will never work.
The idea to address the issue of malicious ads is not an easy one to address. I think this letter is a great starting point, and should hopefully open some thinking, but my point of the mouse example is that we have to address it not only at the redirects level, but the end user. If the "masses" of people out there would learn to not be afraid of technology, then we might make more progress.
These ads move on through fear, and fear is strong. It gives the original writer a virtual (or maybe physical) hardon, because they know they have to the power to control thousands.
I like my mouse idea.
Who knew that a social website like facebook (and the quietly lurking but previously loud) and myspace would garner sooo much attention? I mean come on, you have to wonder what our society is coming to that something like this would even be a blip on the radar of caring... BUT, since we are now taking life direction from sites like this and privacy concerns, I am building a fortress of solitude that each of my friends and family can see through with special glasses, and none of you can see what I am doing.
There, rant for the day, on a techno-social-rant-news-thingie website.

Heh heh.
Just keep in mind the fact that somewhere, someone who counts those beans is trying to force even NASA managers and leaders to rethink the possibilities with spending in mind.
My thought? If the public as a collective showed the interest in space exploration that our country showed in the 60's, I think the bean counters would have a lot less to say about how much it cost for us to perform a long term mission plan than the short ones they are still forced to even research and think about...
Heh, secure them! Yeah, I agree, cause as much as they can survive washing machines, and can be clipped on to anything, how frequently do you find yourself hunting for them when you need one? ("You're never around when I need you!" - Prince John, Robin Hood animated)... I am also amazed in the QUICK drop in price, the fact that they are now in the check out lines of your local Walmart, and grocery store, and are cheaper than buying CD's, just not quite as much storage as a large spindle of blanks... I have probably ten or more of these things that I have had for years, varying shapes or sizes, uses, and hidden secret places I can't find... down to two now, 2gb, free, and 8gb, that reads Mini SD cards....
Here Here!!!
Well that is a very good point. That is the issue with a lot of people right now, they are too busy slamming MS (and vice versa to be honest), and we need to look in the direction of TRUE FACT. How can you give the best recommended process if you don't have the supporting information to back it up. To many of us today want to just say::"do this cause I do." It needs to be "do this because I have researched X,Y,Z, and even A,B,C, and found answer B to be the best, here is my supporintg information on each."
A lot of work, i know, but if you do the research right, and make sure common users are informed, they won't look at you mean when it has it's own problems (the solution you pick).
Just my $1.05.

Look, the long and short of it is, people are used to the Windows world. The issue is not that we can't convert people, it's that it is a culture change, and well, to be honest, that is messing with people's known methodology, and that is a nasty job.
I for one do it when I can. Even if I leave them on the Windows platform. To be honest, if we all as IT geeks continue to help people do many functions free, then we can continue in the right direction. We can't expect an overnight change. Be real.
