I used a 486DX 33Mhz as a Linux router (2x 3Com ISA NIC) for some time. I could download a file from the internet at 650kb/s through it.How hard could it be for today's about 100x times faster CPUs to deal with game traffic that is probably somewhere in the 5-20kb/s range?Seriously, if your CPU is that slow that it cannot handle game traffic, a 250$ NIC probably isn't the wisest upgrade option.
Use Dosbox, it's a x86 emulator with DOS and it will run many old dos games. get it here: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/
