The RIAA is a bunch of greedy money loving bastards who would sooner sue their own mothers than do something useful in the world. What a legacy to pass on to your kids..."What does your dad do?"..."He ruins people's lives for a quick buck."..."So he's a hitman?"..."No, he's a lawyer". It's people like those at the RIAA that give lawyers a bad name.
The music industry is not there to make music. they're there to make money. they do that by coming out with simple jingles that are easily remembered along with a catchy beat. Kind of like 3 minute commercials for whatever the star of the week is. And so people can belt out the lyrics to these shoddily rhymed creations they must be as loud as possible without forcing people to buy better stereo equipment to turn it up.
As one of the chart toppers said "It's all about the benjamins"
If they can charge you for taping 20 seconds of a film you paid to go see then maybe they should look into expanding this extra area of profit for themselves. Maybe they should charge people to talk about the movie... afterall... it is their movie and you watched it in their theatre or maybe they should charge people to remember the movie... those are memories you'll carry for life and there should probably be some sort of fee based on how long after the movie it's projected you'll live and remember the scenes.
I for one have never participated in the taping of movies and probably wouldn't do it but I already dislike the movie theatres for their ridiculous prices, not to mention the price of concessions. The world would be better off without Hollywood and especially without Regal Cinemas. I'll never go to one of their theatres again... greedy bastards.
It is a sad truth but one we're all aware of. Money talks. Our laws are no longer based on those "unalienable rights" listed in our beloved constitution. It is instead based on the 'Golden Rule' which states "He who has the gold makes the rules." Senator Reid is not the first to be bought by Hollywood and he won't be the last. There's too much money to be made through litigation for the RIAA so they're willing to invest quite a bit to pull whatever governmental strings they can find a price tag on.
I'll stop here lest this turn into a 3 page rant that no one reads.
Same ol' same ol'. Xbox and PS3 fans are screaming "We're cool because our system is more powerful". And yet the Wii community responds with a big "So what?".
Bottom line is the Wii is fun to play. It has a new style of interaction with the system and the games are engaging. This isn't a strong man competition, the idea of a 'game' system is to play and have fun. So I come back to the earlier response... "So what?". Your system is faster, more powerful, better looking... whatever you feel like saying that makes you feel better. And you can keep it... I'll go have fun on the "Gamecube 1.5"
It really is almost commical to watch Microsoft flounder around scared of Google. Start a trumped up lawsuit here, insult them in an interview there. Call them 'cute'... lol
I think the only people Microsoft is fooling are themselves and the few short-sighted investors that have never actually used one of Microsoft's many sub-par products.
Microsoft is just scared and looking for something to detract attention from the pitiful excuse for an operating system it just released. Microsoft hasn't done anything more than copy what everyone else is doing for a decade or more and they're scared that Google (who is actually innovative) will take over their market. I for one wish Google would come out with an Operating System so I could ditch Microsoft forever. The only other option is a Mac and with such a hefty pricetag I can't justify the switch regardless of how much I would really like to. C'mon Google... you can beat MS!
I'll keep this brief. My least favorite thing about the RPG genre is the waste of time that is leveling. 'Endgame' is my most favorite part. Not because I'm big and powerful and can 'pwn' everyone, but because there's no dungeon I can't go to and no player I can't pick a fight with in pvp... winning or losing aside.
I don't like being a 'lowbie' and having to prove myself through hours of mindless, useless, tedious, repetative quests. Grinding out level after level until finally I'm worthy to do the same thing without an xp bar to fill.
I play WoW and so that's my point of reference. If I could just create a character and do dungeons, play in pvp earn gear and have a good time in groups I'd be a happy camper. Leveling really holds no joy for me.
I realize eventually I'll get to max level and can do what I want but it really puts a damper on me experimenting with other classes, races, factions etc. because there's always the dreaded task of leveling looming over any new character I create.
I want a game that looks great and is balanced like I feel WoW is, allows me to have fun in groups in dungeons and in pvp and earn equipment, items etc. Leveling != fun
everyone in business is familiar with the concept of playing chess by commitee. it doesn't work.
any large beaurocratic organization is going to have increasing momentum and inherent inefficiency as it grows. all government wants to do is grow... it's like a giant club of people who want the easy life of no responsibility, no fiscal goals and no reprecussions for not accomplishing anything.
the huge companies of the world have similar problems, but the main difference is on some level they are required to be fiscally viable. otherwise, they'll run out of money eventually and fail. the government is required to do nothing but maintain status-quo.
government has no need for innovation, new ideas, efficiency or even deadlines. they don't need these things because they are funded by the never-ending money tree that is taxes and their ability to constantly raise them to continue stuffing their "hard-working" pockets.
it should surprise no one that the government can't deploy anything in a remotely reasonable amount of time, accomplish any of its goals or do anything worthwhile really. the real question is, why aren't smaller more agile companies beating the government on these projects more often?
to put it simply the RIAA is a conglomorate of talent-less, soul-less, money-grubbing, megalomaniacs who seek nothing more than their own profit through the total control and exploitation of the industry they claim to be protecting.
rather than adapt to a changing marketplace they batton down the hatches and declare war decent folk who's only real crime is not being wealthy enough to pay the outlandish prices they feel the product they didn't even create is worth.
as for me, i'll never have the guts to do anything more drastic than gripe about them on a forum where no one will ever read my rant. but on that fateful day in the hopfully not too distant future when some lunatic gets sued by these greedy, inhuman, hypocrites and he loses it... i will let out a chuckle and a sigh of relief in the knowledge that for every action there is a equal and opposite reaction. the RIAA can only push society around for so long... eventually something will give.
but as usual microsoft is just piggy backing on someone else's invention as if to say "look... me too!" like a child immitating a dance step
the 3D model would be revolutionary in mapping, especially via a web browser... but if you actually use the "application" you'll quickly see that it is not infact 3D
sure you don't have only an overhead view but I can get angled still-shots of downtown buildings from most city websites. now i can access still shots on Microsoft?... that's not innovation or even a feature that adds to the application's utility in my opinion. it's just an advertising ploy to make people who aren't paying attention think that Microsoft actually did something new for once
way to go Microsoft marketing department... pat yourselves on the back for another cleverly colored pile of crap produced by your programming department
The same thing we do everynight, Pinky. Try to take over the world.
Somehow I think that statement from the cartoon "Pinky and the Brain" embedded itself a little too deeply in ol' Bill's psyche.
With every new OS, Microsoft becomes more and more controlling, pretending that they're providing service rather than stiffling computers for the sake of their own profit.
What ever happened to innovation? I guess capitalism, atleast in the case of Microsoft, has led to the removal of passion and pride in the growth of the computer industry.
I for one will never give any money, service, advertising or other support to Sony or any company to which they are related.
It's one thing to do "good business" and grow your company, expand your products etc. But when domineering scum like the Sony execs in charge of this attrocity let their soulless greed blind them to the consequences on the world of their actions they don't deserve to have a business any longer.
A business, especially a gigantic one like Sony, should want to not only create profit for themselves but do so by making the world a better place. Products and services are about making life better, more entertaining or any of a number of other positive words. When the company, however, lets greed make them hurt the world rather than help it then, just like any destructive delinquint child, they should be disciplined.
Boycott Sony.
that's great. yet another jury awarding a ridiculous amount for something that doesn't matter. so she gets called a crook on the internet. so what? anyone who knows anything about the internet knows it's where people go to vent, bitch, moan and piss away their frustrations for which they have no other outlet.
one person posting on i don't care how many forums would not ruin someones reputation. furthermore who's reputation is worth $11.3 million.... seriously?
one poster above said both people lose... and that's true. one lady felt cheated... now she's even more cheated for expressing her feelings. the other lady didn't win any money but successfully ruined her own reputation on a national scale because now she's in the news. she took a pointless case to court, to stroke her own ego and make her feel like she's a good person. because everyone knows that if the court tells you you're something it must be true *cough*OJ Simpson
yet another inane abuse of our court systems and a general waste of time. thanks very much to this lady for being a general drain on society... ooh or maybe i shouldn't say that... she might sue me too

that would be a great skit for the daily show John Stewart: "And in other news today, President Bush thanked the CIA for all their hard work" ((President Bush staring blankly at the camera for 60 seconds)) http://www.foia.cia.gov/browse_docs.asp?doc_no=000 1038412&title=PRESIDENT+BUSH+THANKS+CIA&abstract=& no_pages=0004&pub_date=9%2F27%2F2001&release_date= 1%2F23%2F2004&keywords=GEPHARDT&case_no=F-2004-002 41©right=0&release_dec=RIPPUB&classification=U &showPage=0001
